My middle son was transferred by Torchy's Tacos to open up a new place in Shreveport. It wasn't a few weeks later that corona hit. He suggested to follow on with the opening with curbside before curbside was a thing. The PD shut him down due to the lines of folks outside. He implemented "social distancing" once it was known and cut back on the menu items and, of course, hiring the 90 folks all ready to go for the grand opening. He cut the open hours as well. They are running with 30 employees currently. He just sent a text/video that they did $8,700 today and $32,000 last week. We are talking ~$10 a meal type place. The company also learned that they should run on 60 - 70 employees and how now to open a restaurant. Proud of the kid. He is working his tail off but just loving the challenge and the openness of the company for stepping outside the box.

870 covers is a good day for any restaurant.....
Even better without having to wipe down tables...

We're still shut down in Florida and there's no telling when things will get back to normal. We have a 50-50 liquor license and the food isn't where we make the money. Sounds like your son is doing a fine job especially so in these times.

Daughter and her husband opened a restaurant here in November. As soon as the shutdown occurred, they adapted like others and offered curbside service, but also offered deliveries. They are absolutely killing it.

Restaurant business is a tough gig at anytime. Been there. Sounds like your son is on top of it. Kudos for being a proud papa...

If the food is good, they will come. Period.

The Restaurant Business is Not All Bad

It is, that bad.

But thanks for the anecdotal...

It's bad for the dine in only with no delivery or curbside options for sure...

Burger King, Taco Bell, and McDonalds are not restaurants.

Thank you for playing.

I'm missing the local steak house. It's independently owned and has a killer salad bar. It also makes some of the best country fried steak I've ever eaten.

Once this pandemic stuff wanes, I'm going to go there and eat 'till it hurts.

Local lodge about 3 miles from our place is still open for takeout, they usually do a decent business for around here on sit downs (15 miles from a town of 2500 or so). Wife and I are into stimulating the local economy, so we ordered their fried chicken family special tonight. Some Fridays we order from town and make the drive in to help over there.

No sense in sitting on our retirement incomes when folks are struggling. Generally leave a nice tip, especially for a take out meal and no service other than them bringing it to the car.

Glad to hear of your son's success Ed!
