In case your trig isn't up to date, I found this right angle calculator that's very handy. Just put in any 2 sides or 1 side and 1 angle and it will tell you everything else you want to know. RIGHT ANGLE CALCULATORIt has a bunch of other calculators, too, but right angles are commonly used to build anything.

We figure 45’s in plumbing by multiplying the offset x1.41. We figure 22 1/2’s by multiplying the offset by 2.82. This give you the travel piece between the fittings.

3,4,5 is fine if you want to be sure you have a square corner or have a need for a 37 or 53 degree angle. There are lots of other right triangles that aren't that simple.
