G96 Gun Treatment in the spray can. The best stuff I’ve ever used for firearms. It cleans, lubricates, and protects firearms in one step. and it smells good

Eezox. It's great for rust protection and doesn't leave an oily coating. Just ignore the health warnings or wear gloves

Montana extreme makes a good highly refined bore oil that seems to stay in the bore well long term. I just run a patch of it short stroked through and then run a dry patch through later before shooting it again. I typically just use rem oil on the rest of the gun but i live in a pretty dry area.

I use a soft rag, remove all fingerprints, no oil. If they are black oxide I soak them with Corrosion X & wipe dry. Been doing so for 44 years, never a problem.

I use a light wipe of RIG applied with the wipe they sell. Kept all my guns from rusting when I was deployed and didn’t look at them for a year, I figure it’s as good as anything.
Old70 I recommend RIG also. Lasts for years.

Rick,
For thirty five years I've used a light coat of Rem-Oil on my guns when putting them away. However, by far the most important thing that I've used to keep my guns rust-free in the humid South is a GoldenRod in each safe. Never a hint of a problem.

I've had good luck with the silicon impregnated "gun socks". Allen makes one, as do others. They prevent rust, and are breathable (key). https://www.cabelas.com/product/REDHEAD-RM-GUNSOCKS/3303653.utsWhen I lived in South Carolina I had a finely blued old Winchester Model 50 of my grandfathers that sat in a gunsock, in a breathable rifle case for 3 years in that humidity. Slight coat of some protectant (CLP, Barricade, whatever), into the gunsock.... should be good to go. Never a problem. The above is what I do. In addition to no rust, those silicone impregnated socks reduce safe dings on guns.

There was a suggestion for gibbs. I've never used it on a gun. I can tell you that if you have a car down to bare metal and need to leave it in bare metal doing body work over long periods without worrying about rust. Gibbs is the best thing I have seen. People on H.A.M.B, have used it a lot, that's where I learned it.
Now my question that would go with this. Do you guys store old shotguns barrels up , down, or remove stocks when storing for long periods to keep the wood from soaking up the oil.

Get some of the big silica gel bags and toss a couple in the bottom of the safe. Throw some in your cases too.

Not 45.........yet?...............but a good number in a crowded safe. I write what's in it, abbreviations work for me, on the gun sock with a black Sharpie. And, I'm pretty good at remembering which rifle looks like it does even in a gnu sock. Sometimes a quick feel of scope, or wrist (check for a lever), will tell me what I've got. Geno

Rick, I have lived in very humid Humboldt county CA, NW PA, and Juneau along with some drier area. I had a few of those "surface rust" type issues on one or two items in Humboldt. Then I found this stuff https://hexmagstore.com/sentry-marine-tuf-glide-and-tuf-cloth/Since using it I have not had a rust issue. I do combine it with a silicone gun sock, and generally try to do the ones not used frequently about twice a year. I live in a relatively dry area now, but I keep using it. After cleaning a gun I will use a wet patch of that on the bolt etc. So far so good. You'll find something that works in your area for sure. Geno

LPS3 is excellent for rust protection. It dries to a film and you'd probably want to wipe it off before shooting. Breakfree COLLECTOR is also excellent for rust protection and it's easy to apply and doesn't have to be removed.
While cosmoline protects well, it's a LOT of work to remove. You shouldn't use it unless you have access to the unlimited supply of cheap labor the military enjoys.
