I can't imagine being persnickety about which bourbon goes into a mixed drink, Why waste a good bourbon? There is a major difference when drinking it straight.

Makers Mark is a solid choice for a gift. Yep. Not big and bold so as to overwhelm a newbie to sipping whiskey. Not meek and mild so as to be uninteresting to an experienced palate. Not too rare/expensive so as to make the giver cry tears of regret when the recipient does something stupid like mixing it with cola.

When I was a drinking man that is what I drank. I liked the taste and it got me to where I wanted to go.

Tough crowd tonight.
Good stuff, nice gift. man, amen! it's my favorite sipping bourbon over ice. I wouldn't waste it in a mixed drink, as its already plenty smooth and a bit pricey.

Not my favourite, but not bad either; SIL should be happy with your gesture alone !

Makers Mark is as good as most IMO. I certainly wouldn't pour it down the drain!

My girlfriend and I drove up to the distillery just last year. We live in North Carolina, it is just a 450 mile trip. Shirley bought a fifth of the Makers Mark, and she went to the station where she dipped her fifth in the distinctive red wax. Meanwhile, I went down to the "Guest Bar Room." Did you know they give away free shots of this high quality Kentucky bourbon. I swear, I just had a little nip.

It’s OK, I used to drink it at times. It always tended to slip up on me when I stood up.

Makers Mark is a good bourbon in my opinion, I would certainly not be insulted if someone gifted me a bottle of the stuff.

It’s all the same, taste like a rubbing alcohol with a cigarette butt in it.

I was on the other side of the state today and had to stop for gas. The gas station had a small liquor display. I thought I had seen folks here mention Makers Mark, so I grabbed a fifth for my Son in Law. Did I insult him?
I would not know, anything over 15% ETOH all tastes like isopropyl to me I'm sure you didn't insult him, but to answer your question in a word, "no". MM is far inferior to much cheaper stuff and much of the stuff that's the same price.

I like Makers and think highly of anything they make. I don't think its an insult at all. Its a step above Jack Daniels or Jim Beam in my mind.
