Hey everyone, I'm looking for a decent scope to mount on my rem 7600 30'06. I live in California and hunt pigs as well as coastal mule deer/black tail. I don't plan on ever taking shots further than 400 yards or so. I prefer American made and have about $300 to spend. I've been eyeballing vx3i 3-9x40 but their prices have risen recently.

Any advice or tips as to what I should be mounting on my purty pump?

Vx3i.......would be a 3.5-10x.
3-9x was the vx2 stuff.
Of course those gone and replaced by ugly ass Freedom
series.

The 2.5-8x is nice but has a 36mm objective iirc
Looked a little small on my 700.
Proly look fine on a 7600.
Mine was older vx3.
If it was gloss Id have kept it

I like something in the 2-7 range on a 760/7600. Anything bigger can throw off the balance/handling of an otherwise handy feeling rifle.

I use a 2-7 Redfield Revolution on mine. Decent scope. I like that power range in my 7600s.

I have a VX-Freedom 2-7x33 on my 7600 Carbine. It's a good fit for me.
If you like the VX3i 3-9x40 look for a used one. They can be found for around your $300 budget.
Not mine but here's one. https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbt...leupold-vx-3i-3-5-10x40-275#Post14825351

Edit: Don't forget the see thru mounts!

I've never once looked at a rifle and said, "a bigger scope will make it look more baller". laugh

VX3 2.5x8 is what both of mine wear.

You can spend more, but any of the Leupold VX-Freedom scopes will do everything you need to do. Prices for basic ones are around $200, if you want a fancy reticle up to $350.

I would be inclined to look for a good used Leupold FX-II 4x33. Light, unobtrusive, classy looking and excellent quality. All you’d ever need.

I've scoped several 760/7600s over the years and suggest a multi-slot weaver one pc base for versatility, esp with shorter scopes.

The Leupold 1.5-5 is my favourite scope for this rifle, but a VX2 2-7 would be a very good choice as well.

I have a Varix-II 2.5x8 on my 760 and a FX-II 4x on my 7600. A 2x7 or 2.5x8 will work well for you if you want a variable. A 6x36 or 6x42 will work well too.

If your budget ceiling is $300, I'd suggest spending $200 on a 3-9x scope of whatever make/model/style you prefer and spend the remaining $100 to have the trigger tuned or install a Timney #870 kit. The scope will help you see the POA and a better trigger will help you to hit that POA.

Leupold hasn't made the VX2 2-7x33 for a few years now. I bought a couple to put in the safe after they stopped production, and constantly watch for NOS, but haven't seen any in quite some time. You might be able to find a good used one at a decent price.

Have had a lot better luck with the Redfield Rev than the Leupold 2 X 7 tried about 6 or seven gave up on that model Leupold.

Prefer the Redfield, or Vortex Viper 2 X 7 or Bushnell 3200 2 x 7 have 2 Bushnell on my 760 06 & 7600 35 Whelen.
