If you reload 7-08 If you don’t 308 If you reload and want to split that 280

All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

You just dumped a .264, .277 and .308, which all fit nicely in between a .243 and .338. Now you’re asking advice to replace with a .284 or .308 because you want a chamber that fills the gap. I found that kind of odd myself. Maybe they weren't so accurate? But I know people that trade perfectly good trucks every year or two.

Hey everyone again, here's a something that's always talked about but never gets old. So I sold my .270 Winchester, my .30-06, and my 6.5 creedmoor.
Currently my main centerfire rifles are a savage chambered in .243, and an old model 70 in .338 win mag.
I'd like something to split the gap, so probably a 7mm-08 or .308 as I live in Michigan and don't need the hottest flattest shooting round. I'm looking at either a left handed Tikka t3x lite, or a Kimber montana. Also possibly a Winchester model 70 featherweight, the only wood and blues option.
What are your thoughts? Main objective is hunting whitetail, at any sensible range for the cartridge. Want to hunt elk someday but I have the 338 for that. And the 243 is plenty for deer here but I want something else.
Thanks! ........................Either a 7mm (280 incl) or a 30 cal would split the gap about in the middle. The 270 would also do whatever the 7s or the 30s could do within your state. No over analyzing needed in your case........

For everyone who is curious about it, I sold the ones I did for financial reasons at the time. Not because I wanted to, especially the 270 which was a kimber, and an accurate one.
But since I dont have them anymore, I always like the idea of changing things and getting a rifle and cartridge i have not used before.
I appreciate everyone's input, I'm going to handle the rifles I can access locally once our shops are allowed to open back up. The ruger 77 at cdnn is definitely intriguing.

Well you could just make a reduced load with a 200 grain bullet for the .338 Winchester you already own and you would have a medium duty rifle without the expense of a new one.

If you want something different to replace what you just sold, I would suggest a .280 AI. It would fill a lot of performance needs.
I periodically compare its ballistics to my '06 and find it very close and it has a trendy attraction the '06 doesn't.

+1 for the 7mm-08. It just works.

Look around on Gunbroker or Guns International and try to find an early ( or pretty early) Browning BLR '81 in 7mm/08; 308 or 358Win! OR one of those Husqvarna on a Mod 98 action in 8x57 or 9.3x57. Sounds fun! Have a ball pard!

By getting rid of your .270 and 30-06 I'm guessing you were not satisfied with the make or model of rifle?
My vote would be .308 Win. in the Kimber Montana for satisfaction.

M70 featherweight would be a good choice, i have one i bought last year new in .30-06 and it’s very slick. I put QD rings on it, timney trigger, and NECG iron sights and its good to go.

Some of y'all sure being snappy with a Looney for finding so much fault over selling rifles and buying more. Dang.
Hey Jack. A 6.5x55 or 7x57 are hard to beat for the cool factor and killing game. Almost like the old designers knew what they were doing even 100 yrs ago. But that's a pretty tall order for left hand actions. Seems I recall the current version of what used to be the Interarms Mk X has a left hand Mauser copy in one or both of those rounds. Maybe someone here can give contact info on those.
Outside of that the 7-08 is probably harder to beat especially with the 120 TTX. Even maybe a .260 just to be contrarian. No flies on that round at all with hunting bullets. Plain old 129 Interlock works very well along with a bunch of others. Good luck.

My suggestion Jack, what ever you do settle on make sure it is the best you can afford. And if you needs wait a while to save more coin to buy the better unit then that is the way to go. Buy like you are buying for future generations...and tuck your details (sales docket) under the butt plate.
These are my opinions, feel free to disagree.

It sucks to have to sell your rifles. Especially if they are chambered in the infamous 30-06 and 6.5 creedmoor. The 270 is gay, it should have been on the chopping block anyway.. I'd be looking for another good 30-06 or creedmoor. The choices are endless and you probably already know what you want, so I'd go with your gut instinct there... Good luck with it..
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

.280 AI in KImber Hunter (detachable mag) or Montana. Rem 7 in .260 or mix it up with a Marlin Dark 30-30 or Henry Big Boy Steel Carbine .44 mag! Three months ago I added the Henry to my collection and it has been a lot of fun to shoot.

Go with your original instinct Mr Vliet...the .308 does it all.
Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.
