Yeah, I don’t think so. The crown should have no bearing on recoil, felt or otherwise.

From owning and shooting three 454s, it does have a bearing on felt recoil.

Okay, explain how. Have you tested this miracle crown against an identical revolver with a more standard crown?

Barrel length will affect felt recoil...but if we are talking just a crown, I don’t think so.

Here's my short .480 SBH...

I got one through Sportsman's Warehouse. I didn't keep it all that long.

I have a 6-1/2" .454. Recoil is peppy but it is fairly accurate. I'd heard the .480 had less recoil which seemed like a good thing so I ordered one, got dies, brass, etc. Maybe because of barrel length, dunno, but to my hands that short .480 was worse than the longer .454, both shooting Hornady factory ammo (325 grain in the .480, 300 grain in the .454). I didn't get what I thought I was getting out of it so I sent it on down the road along with the brass, dies, and bullets.

Should have rolled your own with the handloading components you purchased INSTEAD of the **factory** !@#% that ruined your experience.

Gorgeous grips Max....what kinda of wood...

I also can not see how a dished crown would reduce recoil... Only thing I ever thought it was for was to protect the crown/bore area from damaged if dropped.

Rubbish to the guy claiming so. Gary Reeder's perfect Bisley conversion...

Not sure how a different crown could make any change in felt recoil. Why not send that little dandy over here to Idaho & let me test drive it against my gun.......

Why not get a 6.5” & cut the barrel?

I bought a 6.5" version when they first came out and then later found a 4-5/8" one and bought it also. I haven't shot the longer barreled one since buying the shorter one. It was a sad day when the shorter one fell out of the truck and bounced off the concrete driveway leaving some road crash. In an emotional state, I bought the next short barreled one I found and it's still new in the box. I probably should sell one or two...

Rumor has it there was only about a 150 of the 4 5/8" made for lipseys in the initial run of 2017/2018. They were on and off gunbroker within about two weeks. Since then they rarely pop up. The 6 1/2" was either produced in bigger numbers or in multiple runs depending who you listen to. Or they just did not sell and there are still ones floating around from the original batch. A call to lipseys might get you a solid answer.

As to the 4 5/8" I got one and it would be the last gun I would sell. Other than grips that fit poorly it is the best fit and finish of any production gun I have ever handled. Absolute blast to shoot.

I had a set of grips fitted by Reeder and the grip frame edges softened. I was very happy with his work.

Well, guess what-
Just got a call from my LGS. He located a Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley 4 5/8"!!!!

Should be on its way in a few days. I imagine it is thru Lipseys, they have been shut down for awhile due to the virus.
With good luck like this, who knows- RL 26 may show up on one of my LGS's shelves anytime soon!

I assume you need to send them your gun for fitting?
