Has anybody gotten 4166 to work in a 30-06 application where 4895, 4064, Varget, RL15 and N140 shine?

It seems like mine just isn't having it.

May be a bit fast for the ‘06.

Mine likes Big Game, 130’s on up.

I'm not looking for max speed. Garand level accuracy loads are the goal. Similar burners like Varget and N140 are performing superbly.

What is your load? One would think IMR 4166 would be an acceptable powder in the 30-06. Burn rate is similar to 4895.

Today I was working with the 168 AMax. I shot a spread of charges from 45 to 48 grains. All of the five shot groups were 1.75 to 2 inches at 100 yards.

Loads with the same bullet and Varget or N140 or N135 shoot five inside 3 inches at 300 yards.

Try RL-17 and 180gr bullets......very accurate and pushing 2900fps from 24” barrel.

Pretty good sounding load, but not my goal.
