We put 24 in the incubator. 2 hatched, 4 went term and didn’t get out.

Donator said rooster was taking care of things, not so much.

So, got pinged for over $3/each to get the original 2 some company. Australorp and Americana.

No eating here, eggs only. They’re pets for the lovely wife.

Lost all chickens while in Florida. Neighbors girlfriends Husky. #2 son found them.....

Back in the 1950s, we got a chick like that for Easter, when I was just a kid, maybe 1st or second grade. We kept it in the house in a cardboard box, and as the chick got bigger, mom sent it home with our colored maid, "aunt lulu," who lived on a farm. A month or two later she brought a plate of fried chicken for our dinner. grin

We keep Leghorns and Ameraucanas. My daughter would never talk to me again if we dropped an axe on any of them. We’ll call them egg laying pets in my case.

"Colored Chicks" reminded me of Easters when I was a kid. Our local hatchery would dye chicks' feathers different colors and give them away to kids. Anyone else familiar with that?

Yep. They sold them at Easter in the TG&Y 5¢ and 10¢ stores, for a nickle.
