i have a 243 and 6.5 fieldcraft rifle and both seem to crater primers before getting to a top charge of powder ....anybody else see this in these rifles

What brand primer? Some are softer.

"Top charge"...from a book or chronographed in your rifle?

Try a Remington 9 1/2 primer in both calibers. They have a pretty hard surface.

Does it crater with virgin brass and correctly sized fired brass?

From my limited experience, possible causes are:

Sloppy headspace
Load is too hot
Oversize firing pin hole


This is my bolt after gre-tan bushed the hole and turned down the pin.
