After 11:30 tomorrow morning this young man will be a Second Lieutenant in the USAF. He will be training on the T-6 Texan 2 out of Columbus, MS. This is my daughters boyfriend and a great young man. This country needs more folk like this!

That is great! I will always remember the day of my Commissioning. Great to hear we have good people joining the military even today.

Excellent! My son finished Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training (SUPT) at Laughlin AFB, TX at the end of February, flying first in the Texan and the second half of training in the T-1. Covid-19 has caused some interruptions in his training since, but he is now flying the C-21 Learjet at Scott AFB, IL. Congratulations to your daughter's boyfriend!

I think it was a medal with several designations for ROTC but I really don't remember.

They indicate that the person wearing them is in the military service and that he/she has been through some specific USAF training.

This picture brings back vaguely remember the day that my Father and Mother pinned the gold bars of a 2LT on my Class A uniform in May of 1977.

I think that America would be a better place if every able bodied and minded high school graduate was required to do 18 months of either civil or military service. It would give them a broader view of what American is outside of their often small view of it and it would give them time to season a little before they went to college or into the job market.

He is a fine looking young man and i sincerely wish him all the best.

Kudos to the young man- - - -he's one of about 200 these days who choose to put on the uniform of any service, and protect the freedom we all enjoy. My father was one of the 11% who fought WW II, and by the time Southeast Asia came around, only 3% of us served. Now it's down to 1/2 of 1%!

The Air Force has the right idea- - - - -they make the officers do the fighting!

Congrats to him . It's the start of a great journey.

Columbus AFB has had it's share of great instructors and students over the years including our own Rocky Raab and here's one of my Grandfather (on the left) there as an instructor in 1947 in front of a Texan 1. Of course they didn't call it the 1 at the time. grin

I did not serve in the military as I was a kid during the Vietnam War. I was also a news junky at an early age so I didn't want to go there but it was over before I came of age. My dad was in the Navy in WW2 then went to college at NC State University and was in Army ROTC from there went into the paratroopers where he had a bad accident during jumpmaster training. He was in the hospital for over a year. I regretted for years not serving my country but if I had I would never met my wife or had our daughter. I don't have regrets anymore. Call me soft but I get a tear in my eye when I see young folks becoming officers or enlisted folks joining up. I have much respect for our men and women that do serve.
