OP wildcat33 Campfire Member W Joined: Aug 2014 Posts: 410 Colorado	There are some beloved knife makers on here such as Ingram, May, Winston, and Dozier. What up and coming makers out there are doing practical hunting blades, with well treated and ground steel, and a good kydex holster? I think the "ideal" working knife would be 3.5", drop point blade, hollow ground, with a low profile kydex. Micarta or wood scales, but nothing fancy. Nothing wrong with the fellas above, but the wait list and prices reflect their high quality reputation and I figure there must be some others out there that are doing good work at reasonable prices that dont get the attention they deserve. What say the fire?

Looks like Joel’s website was last updated in 2015, anyone know if he’s still making knives? I’d like to order one. Ping pong balls for the win. Once you've wrestled everything else in life is easy. Which is a shame because his work is amazing. He has his following but not what it should be. But the higher end working knives have a small audience. A lot of good makers out there and some really great ones too.I try to focus on the ones really trying to push what is doable. Eat Fish, Wear Grundens, Drink Alaskan.

Few months ago got a skinner from him. Real nice. I like plain Jane working knives. I top out at the $300 mark. I personally can’t justify anything over that. But that’s me. Guess i could spring for a $500 knife instead of 2x$250. 🤷🏽‍♂️. Lot of new guys are on Instagram these days. Good time to be buying knives. I have a little Skinner from Miller in 440C, hollow ground. Nothing too fancy but the way if fits in my hand it just feels great. I think I got it from Vince out of the Classifieds a year or two ago. Basically anything on Vince's site. Lucas forge is also up my alley in terms of style. I'm warming to the Instagram makers, but very slowly. Keep em comin!

Tom can more than grind...he is the most precise grinder in the business, unless my Zeiss and Mitutoyo Optical Metrology Systems, and measurement of hundreds of custom knives are wrong??? Also, I recently communicated with Paul Farner re a couple of knives, including a forum maker here. From past discussions I know you are a real knife guy, so shoot me a PM if you would, re your Bos concerns and I’ll share mine... Thanks! Todd posts here on 24hr. using the screen name of "justahunter" This is the first knife that I got from Todd, Weathered L6 Steel and Spalted Pecan. IIRC, Todd told me that he had let the bar stock from which these knives were made weather for +/- 6 years. It works! He has been kind enough to make a set of 4 kinves for my two boys, oldest grandson and my son in law. Here are two of those. He engraved their initals and birthdate on the spine of each knife. and their initials on the sheath that accompanied each knife! Jacob's knife was given to him on his birthday. This deer and 5 others were skinned with his knife the day he took this buck before it had to be resharpened. The next knife is Todds interpretation of a Nessmuk style blade.
