Looking for a scope in the 3-9x40 range for a plain .223 sporter. It must have a BDC reticle. What do you recommend under $400?

Burris Fullfield II w/ballistic plex is about the most bang for your bucks. Not much for dialing, etc., but if it's just a set & forget situation they are suprisingly good. Can usually find them for around $200 or so ; somtimes less. Good luck, -Ted

Put a SS 2.5-10 with ranging reticle on my 223. Out the door with shipping was 300.00 IIRC. I'm happy with it.

SPORT OPTICS has Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 Ballistic Plex for $135.15. If you prefer to buy from Doug at CameraLand he would probably match the price.

Its really hard to go wrong with the FFII 3-9x40 with ballistic plex reticle. You could also go with a Burris MSR in 3-9x40 or 4.5-14x42. That is what I run on my 223 bolt gun: The nice thing about the MSR is you can order a custom dial for the load your are shooting. It also has the ballistic plex reticle, but more calibrated for the 223 cartridge.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I picked up a nice walnut stock here for my Hawkeye All Weather, and the matte gray goes well with the walnut on that one too. Mine wears a Hawke Endurance LER I got when Doug was clearing them out. According to their app, zeroed at 100 yards, 40gr Fiocchi VMaxes should fall almost right on top of the extra aiming points on the reticle at 200 and 300. Gonna find out soon now that I have access to those yardages again. If I had to replace the scope, I might go with a FF E1 4.5-14 with the side focus. Like those pretty well, except would prefer the old reticle.
What fresh Hell is this?

Is the front sight functional or purely cosmetic? How is the light gathering/transmission of the 32mm objective?

I’d take the Weaver Grand Slam Tactical 3-10x40 in the classifieds for $220...

I like the Bushnell AR Optics 4.5-18. I've got them on several rimfires and find them to track well and you can choose the Dropzone reticle since you want a BDC reticle...

Nikon m tactical 3-12 x42 from Eurooptoics. Their M rad is still affordable and the reticle could be used as BDC Read the reviews for your self https://www.eurooptic.com/Nikon-M-TACTICAL-Riflescope-3-12X42SF-Matte-MK1-MRAD-16520.aspx

All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

I can answer the question about the front sight being functional on rgrx1276's rifle. The front sight is very functional when you detach the scope and attach a NECG receiver sight. rgrx1276, I hope it shoots as well for you as it did for me. RJ
