I am interested in getting a Fieldcraft but I need a shorter LOP.
Does anyone know if this can be easily accomplished?
After cutting is there something left to screw a recoil pad onto.
Should I post to another group? Any advice or info would be appreciated.

I generally require a shorter LOP also but the LOP on the fieldcraft isn't a problem. Have you shouldered the rifle with a scope?

All of the Fieldcraft pictures I see on Gun Broker "look like" a 1" recoil pad. Would it be sufficient to fit a 1/2" recoil pad without altering the stock ?

No I haven't shouldered one but I usually have trouble with eye relief.
I didn't think about a thiner recoil pad.

If you do not need a high number of X's, keep in mind that a straight tube scope (eg: VX3 1.5-5x20, VX6HD 1-6x24) can generally be positioned further to the rear to accommodate proper eye relief due to no objective bell.

I wondered the same thing, and ultimately never bought one because of the long LOP. I emailed Barrett a while back inquiring if I could get them to shorten a stock (on my dime). Their response was:

"That would be classified as custom work and we do not offer custom work. Any gunsmith should be able to perform the requested job, however, that would void the one year manufacturer warranty.

I had someone install a 1/4” Pachmyer Ultralight on both of mine. Perfect imo.

I would also be interested in shortening the stock on mine. I have one and, although shootable for me, I would like it 1/2 shorter or so. Any recommendations of someone that would do a good job of cutting the stock down and reinstalling a pad?

I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.

Honestly I can’t tell a difference. 22 & 6.5 creedmoor, pretty mild recoil to begin with.

That’s a good idea. Get the balance better too without adding contour or length.
