Inspired by a shot my 15 year old made on a pig that had me pretty impressed.
6” target at 160 yards Standing-supported (he rested the forearm on a fence post) Magnification allowed (he used 3x) 4 second par time (the rifle can start on the support, but as soon as you get behind the optic your countdown starts) You only get one shot
your flippant remarks which you so adeptly sling

Get that boy into High Power! He can do 20 one-shot matches in a row!

That was an awfully small fuggin pig.
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

The part he hit was only .284. Hit right in the middle of it.

The kind of practice that is useful. X's ain't crap in real shooting.
Good enough, quick enough is everything.

Yep. And after watching a lot of people shoot standing supported I bet this four second par time would be tough for a lot of people.

Good enough, quick enough is everything. There's been other shoots that get swept under the rug here. Car Ross started one and guys like formid and i shot it. It was a timed event and i didn't see you shoot that one either. Guys that like to talk chidt behind their computers can talk all the chidt they want about shooting x's, but if you aren't going to participate in the other shoots, I'd suggest you keep your fu cking mouth shut about what's good shooting...I'll post a link to the Carl Ross positinal match, if you want to give it a try..

Wow BSA,
Sensitive much.
You have a cool ongoing thread about shoting groups. It has been interesting and informative to me, and others. Groups are valuable. Standards and setting a baseline are where everything else starts. Searching for better accuracy is beneficial to all in the sport. And if the range is your main interest, that's enough
But for me, a bench and bags are work. It's where I'm all scientific persnickety and crap. Loads chosen, sights zeroed, I like to shoot stuff. Thing that jump, break, roll, or die.
My interest is hunting, or self defense. Neither requires much accuracy in my area. Being fast, and good enough, is what kills deer here. No rest, no feeder, standing on my feet. Shots are <150yds, at animals usually moving. Pick at spot, shoot quick, or be an observer.
You also wont find pics of me anywhere. Posted a couple here in another place of food or projects. None of people or identifiable places. Won't see a bunch of hunting ones, not even in my house. Not mounts, or even horns. They hang from rafters in the shed.
If spent too much time justifying myself to a tirade. Only because you have usually seemed a decent dude.
If it doesn't satisfy.
GFY!

Yep. And after watching a lot of people shoot standing supported I bet this four second par time would be tough for a lot of people. Once you learn to take the first good shot you see, the 4 seconds becomes easier. It would usually not be an easy shot for me for sure but I'm getting better at getting em off quicker, realizing I need to aim at a hair but hit an area, not aim at hair and hit hair... LOL. Now X shooters in High-power are more likely to be able to do this, they KNOW they have to take the first one they see or start over. Though I bet your shooters, 3 gun or whatever we call it these days ain't shabby and probably shame XC shooters.

I'm with Dillon, matches prove lots of things. They don't prove you can shoot game or etc... under pressure. Multi shot groups prove you are capable and the gun and ammo combo is capable. And IMHO might have a better chance.. but I"ve seen too many folks that are deadly in the field that can't hold a candle to me on the range.... Its different strokes, and its also why cross training teaches you SO much more than just shooting one match or type of match. Day in day out I respect the cold bore one shot groups way more than the 20 shot group people. Though often they can be the same people.

I've never seen a guy that shot well in matches that didn't also shoot well in the game fields.
But really, being a good game shot is more about knowing your limits than being a great shot.
