Looking around Ruger's website I found this version of the SP101 with 3" barrel in .357. Doesn't do anything the 3" Model 60 in .357 with adjustable sights doesn't do but for some reason this one is kind of calling to me. It'd be better in stainless but I like the blued look as well. Trouble is, Davidson's Gallery of Guns doesn't even show it and the two or three dealer websites that do show it all list it as out of stock.

It's a Lipsey's special, meaning limited run, so was it offered a while ago and I missed it or is this something that Lipsey's is offering but hasn't made it out into the distribution channels yet?

Hence the question if anyone has ever seen one before. Ruger Model 15707.

Never mind. Seems this is a brand new offering and Lipsey's still has it listed as on order from Ruger.

Looks like it would make a fine kit gun and might be a bit more comfortable to shoot than a 3-inch Model 60.

I have a 4-inch SP101 in .32 H&R that I like a lot. I also have a 3-inch Model 60-something in .38 Special. Both are fine kit guns and quite pleasant to shoot.

Bought one of the original 60-4 .38's back in the 80's for a girlfriend and really liked it - almost didn't want to give it to her. wink Recoil was a little snappy but not too bad at all.

Been keeping the idea of this in in the back of my mind but never really pursued it, especially when prices on those original ones went too high, and then Smith turned it into a .357 which is a bit much in such a small revolver. This one hits the right style buttons for me with the lack of a full underlug, that makes those SP101's look too snouty IMO, plus this one has adjustable sights. Had a 3" SP101 several years ago but just used .38's in it and recoil was fine. Tried five .357 Mag 158 gr. Federal factory loads one time - five as fast as I could pull the trigger - and my hand stung like it had been hit with a bat. So this would be used as a .38 or with mid-range .357 loads at most.

After posting here I figured duh, just call Lipsey's and ask. They answered right away and the guy knew exactly which one I was talking about, and told me they had been ordered but they were still waiting on Ruger to deliver. Gonna keep my eye open on gunbroker and various on line dealers for this one.

Mo money, but I've had regrets from spending less when it comes to S&W vs. Ruger. But the model 60 Pro S&W is the bar in this category. Can it be beat? in price, yes. Otherwise?

Lipsey's has over 90 dealers in Idaho, why not just have one of them order it for you? Davidson's is a competitor, so they'll never have it.

What's wrong with the 60 in 357.
Just because you have a big hammer, you don't need
to smash the nail.

Pretend it's a 38, with more room to seat a bullet out.
Hell, use it exactly that way.

Anything Smith builds will be better than a Ruger.
And if you want something small, I bet light would be good.
The SP ain't light.
