Officers in Nashville, Tennessee, have dispersed crowds in downtown with tear gas after the building that houses the Metro Courthouse and City Hall was set on fire.


Witnesses reported seeing the first floor of the historic building filled with flames around 8:15 p.m. CST, according to The Tennessean. It was the boiling point for the city in a night of protest that saw several buildings vandalized, police cars destroyed and chaos stream through the community’s downtown.Metro Nashville Police Department released several statements on its Twitter page in regards to the fire at the historic building, which has been a staple in Nashville’s downtown since the mid 1930s.»RELATED: Police deploy tear gas near White House as protests there become violent“MNPD has deployed gas at the Historic Courthouse to protect the building after protestors set it on fire.
