I'm working on my 2nd AR build and I'm getting ready to buy a barrel. This will be a 5.56 in 16". What barrels would you recommend that could be had for around the $200 mark?
This is primarily for home defense / range gun. I’m not concerned about super long range accuracy.
Any input would be much appreciated!

BHW aka Columbia River Arms currently has 30% off their custom barrels.

Coupon Code MANA30.
That bring them down to $161.00 if you opt for no extra's.

Take a look at AR-15 Performance for any everyday, no frills, decent shooting barrel.

These guys have some pretty good barrels too:

Bison Armory 223/556 barrels

Its a local manufacture and some of the guys at my club use them. They shoot pretty good and from what I hear, they stand behind their product very well..

Here's their accuracy guarantee:

Performance guarantee
We guarantee our barrels, upper assemblies and complete rifles will deliver MOA accuracy or better when properly assembled and when used with quality ammunition. We've been selling our products for long enough to know what they are capable of, and they have been MOA capable since day one.

If you have any issues with the function of any item purchased from Bison Armory, call or email us right away. Most of the time, the problem can be diagnosed and resolved without needing to return the item. If the problem persists, however, contact us to arrange for the item to be sent back to us (we will pay for the round trip shipping) and we will fix or replace your item as quickly as possible at no cost to you.

Another vote for Faxon. Recently finished my first upper build and I'm very happy with the results. It was one of their match grade barrels and was slightly higher than your 200 limit but it also had fluting which added to the cost.

You might consider a Black River Tactical Optimum barrel, they are doing some interesting things, but you might have to catch a sale.
AR15 Performance is never a bad choice and his prices are more than reasonable.

Most of all he loved the fall
The leaves yellow on the cottonwoods
Leaves floating on the trout steams and above the hills
The high blue windless skies
Now he will be part of them, forever

x3.

I have two of their barrels (a 12.5" 6.8 SPC-II and a 16" .223 Wylde) and with handloads, I've found sub-.5 MOA loads for each of them. I have had one of these barrels (the 6.8) for a few years (the other is new), and it has shot sub-MOA with every factory round I fed it. Plus they're a great deal at about $180 each. Hope this helps, but YMMV.

Rra has a 16 inch lightweight barrel for 160. After trying just about everything high end in the ar 15 barrel world. It’s tuff to beat rra barrels for accuracy

So you say. I've seen RRA barrels get the chidt beat out of them. My buddy has an A2 that shoots better than his RRA and the A2 is iron sight only. His RRA ATH carbine has a scope on it.. He's looking to get rid of that rifle because he says it shoots like chidt. I'd have to agree with him..
