Has anyone used this scope? Thinking about one for if things ever went wrong , night time or day time . It still works if the battery goes dead, low powered so I could shot both eyes open. What do you think? Would be on a ar-15

Looks like a dandy to me. Great FOV for calling coyotes good eye relief, I'd like to see the reticle in person though.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Limofarm, I have had one on my AR for several years now and I think it is the ideal scope for a utility AR, primarily for all of the reasons you cite. It is great at 1x and when illuminated, it basically becomes a red-dot site, easy target acquisition in close quarters. As you say, you can also use the reticle without the illumination so it isn't useless if the battery goes dead. Plus, the dots are regulated for .223/5.56 ammo so if you need to hit something at longer ranges, you have that option. I can't say that I've had mine out in any "demanding" environments, so I can't speak to its durability in the field.

Have one. I thought it'd be better in low light, but it's not going anywhere.

Is there a choice of reticles? Which one is preferred?

I opted for the Vortex Strike Eagle 1x8. Many of the same positives as the MTac, but more top end. PSA had them on sale recently, came with the cantilever mount so out came the card. Initial impressions are good. Reticle has plenty of visibility optons, including no illumination. Ought to work great calling coyotes in the snow, at night.....

I've used one quite a bit in 3 gun competition. I rarely bothered to use the illumination. They would be great for self defense purposes. They work very well for short distance shooting but the reticle is not extremely precise for shots beyond 200 yards. For rifle matches where some shots can exceed 300 yards I prefer a different reticle. I'm now using a Steiner 1-5x24 for that.

Isn't the Strike Eagle really a Chicom buzzard?
