I remember some discussion about a recently available 1911 being imported and selling for around 300 dollars on here some few months ago. What name were they being sold under? and, did they indeed become "a good deal" or did they have some major flaws that later showed up with use? Many thanks.

Turkey is regional power with excellent modern armament industry. I would take a plunge if I needed a 1911-style pistol. Soon they will be like the Chinese Norconia 1911s that sell in US for $500 to $600 (about $350 new in Canada).
Another good option in old-style pistol are Bulgarian High Power type guns. These were made in 9x19 almost entirely from forged parts.

Really happy with my Tisas 1911A1 . Nice trigger , shoots really well and no problems so far(250) rounds.

According to the owner's manual, they have a warranty against defects, and a warranty repair center in the US, free shipping both ways. If you happen to get one with a problem, they will replace or tune whatever part was defective or problematic, I'm sure. It's bound to happen on some of them, as with all firearms. But I have not heard of any widespread problems with these.

This guy is highly critical of these types of guns, and never pulls punches, but is pleased with his.

As I recall, he makes the mistake of saying that the hammer isn't authentic in look because his original looks different. He doesn't realize that the originals had a couple of different hammer types, depending on who made them.

That's about what the Browning High Powers were going for when they stopped offering them. Likely, as modified by C&S, an excellent pistol.

If you don’t mind going up to $700-800, I have a Magnum Research Desert Eagle 1911 that I like a lot.

The only lowend 1911 worth a schitt is the RIA / Armscor version...........and even then they are close to a throwaway.

The Tisas is a throwaway................YMMV.

Dealt with Turkish schitt enough to know that they honor material specs about as much as the Chinks, & that's not much............TONS of lot to lot variation & heat treatment that is at best, highly variable, depending on the day & the moon phase.

I looked at a Tisas today. Decent slide to frame fit and a very nicely done wadcutter throat in the barrel. Trigger was consistent with GI copies and the finish is sort of a semi-gloss black which is just weird for those of us who grew shooting USGI surplus pistols. But I didn't see anything that looked bad and the guys I know who have them report good function and decent accuracy. To a man they are all seasoned shooters and excellent pistol shots who own quality mainstream guns.

Wow, quite the difference in opinion on these things. Thanks all for sharing your experiences with them. Are particularly interested in the 9mm version of said pistol. It’s use would be having the living crap shot out of it and living on the pickup floor during its off time. One of my family members wants to expand his shooting experiences away from constant glocking. I am confident in my expert from Florida giving me the full lowdown shortly. Hope he is not stranded out in the glades drinking beer and eating fried gator balls tonight. Again my thanks, much to ponder here.

A cheap 9mm 1911 that will have the living hell shot out of it and then live on the truck floorboard doesn't sound too promising.

TWR, I quite agree with your thought here. But how would a 900 dollar piece make the situation better?
