Yes, it's Wyoming all right, blizzards in June. You SoCal folks might want to stay home, it's nicer down there.

A June snowstorm continued to cause travel problems in southeast Wyoming on Tuesday morning, with Interstate 80 closed between Cheyenne and Laramie.

The National Weather Service office in Cheyenne reported heavy snow above 7,000 feet, with snow-packed roads, in an early Tuesday morning Facebook post.

A 50-mile stretch of the highway closed between Laramie and Cheyenne on Monday night. As of 7:45 a.m., it remained closed in both directions.

Parts of U.S. highways 30 and 287 were also closed.

A winter storm warning remains in effect for the area until 9 a.m. Tuesday. However, cold and windy conditions are expected to continue throughout the day, according to the weather service forecast.

The unusually cold weather comes just days after temperatures soared into the 90s across parts of Wyoming. More typical June temperatures are forecast for later this week, with a high of 80 predicted in Laramie for Friday.

No need in asking about the Snowy Range on Hwy 287.

Snow in summer while camping is awesome.

Mountains can make their own weather for sure.
I live in the Wind River Valley, and for 3 days I have been working in T shirts and sleeping with one a sheet, with the door to the outside open. So only 1/3 of the state away they have road closures due to snow and here it's full-on summer. Yet I have seen the same difference in reverse a few times too, when I had snow and 80-100 miles away it was summer.

People that can't stand that kind of thing should not move to states with large mountain ranges. If warm wet air is forced upwards over mountains 5,000 to 10,000 feet in a short time-- it's going to do what it does ----and no amount of complaining is going to stop it.

Indeed. We had that many years ago while camping outside Leadville.

I just drove that road last May. I am from North Carolina.
We didn't see any snow on I 80, but I was astonished to see snow banks 4 feet high in Yellowstone. And the lake was still frozen over.

You can see the Snowy's from 287, but it's Hwy 130 that goes across the top. I can see fresh snow on Laramie Peak and the range from my place today. Just another June day in Wyoming.

Wife and I were driving from Oregon to New York in June many years ago.

Stayed in a hotel overnight in Cheyenne, she gets up in the morning to go fetch something from the car.

Opens the door and stood there in disbelief at the snow.

Fortunately it cleared quickly so we were able to resume our trip.

Ran into tornadoes later in Nebraska.

A memorable trip for sure!

Sunny AZ, had 98 degree temps late last week, and woke up this morning to 35 degrees at the house. Should have known it was coming, the last 3 days the wind has been unbearable 40 MPH sustained with a gust to 68 MPH here at work....typical spring/early summer weather here. Wind should die down about the 4th of July.

Snow in MT yesterday, but missed us in the NW corner this time. I have shoveled snow in June a few times. Not unusual at all, garden planting time is June 15 for us.
