Loading a bunch of 41 Mag in Starline brass on a Dillon XL650. On about the hundredth round the press got difficult and when it came down and out of the die, the carbide ring had come out of the die and stuck near the base of the brass!

I've used many carbide dies, many Redding dies, and I've NEVER had a problem with any. On reflection, since I was using new brass what I should have done is not use the sizing die at all as the new brass doesn't require sizing for the initial loads.

Has anyone ever had the carbide come out of a die? Never heard of it personally and I've never had problems with Redding dies. I had wiped the die on installation but in the recess where the carbide fits there was much oil. The dies were new but bought about 20 years ago and stored unused in their new box. I've contacted Redding but thinking about freezing the ring and heating the die with a heat gun and trying to reinstall in a dry recess.

Yep, had rings come out.

Redding handgun SIZER dies, both carbide and steel, have been junk on several occasions for me.

The seaters have been great.

Disappointing to hear. I've never had problems with them. Or Forster. I've contacted Redding. Waiting to hear.

I heated the die with a heat gun after degreasing it, froze the ring and pressed the carbide ring back in there. Easy. Too easy.

Had you used Locktite 603 green bearing retainer, it would not come out as long as there was an interference fit. Regardless, it should never have happened.

Thought of that but I didn't own Locktite Green, just Red. Made no sense to buy for one time use when Redding will replace the die. Besides, I didn't know how easy it would be to pop back in there and whether heat would affect the Locktite. It's on its way back now and hopefully the replacement is on its way.
