Niether truck needs a jack to get under and gravel drive so I dont GAF about a little mess.

I pull the plug. Sometimes the engines hot, sometimes not.

Pull filter and spin new on. Replace plug.

Dump in whatever new oil. Dump old oil in the barrel.

If it takes 5 minutes I'd be shocked.

Small engines and boat get changed once a year.
Mower, generator, pressure washer, boat.

Boat is a bit of a pain. Have a hose hooked to the pan I thread out of the drain hole. Drains SLOOOOOW.

Have done this for decades myself..
Vehicles with mileage up to 286k with a speedo gear broken for 3 yrs on that Ford Ranger.
Have owned 3 of em since 1989
Now Im a chevy colorado guy since last may.
Never have seen any blown front or rear main seals or top end valve issues from this way.

Disclaimer once again. Dont do what I do.....

1. Drain pan cold, dont let pan settlement circulate in system.
Get rid of that schitt..... even though you think you dont see schit, stuff is suspended in that oil. Buy a magnetic drain plug, lots of OEM ones aint magnetic .
You might be surprised what a hair bear bunch magnetic plug looks like on a new vehicle your 1st 1 or 2 oil changes.
Know it did on 2 new rangers I bought back in the day.
Normal usually for em to be a little fuzzy in a new engine before they settle in.
Good for used vehicles to start drawing schit out, they usually settle the fugg out also.
4th change in my Colorado so far.
1st 2 with magnetic plug it had schitt on it, but nothing major really.
Last 1 and this time 0.....
Bought truck used with 130k on it last may, for an 04 that was good mileage, got 146k on it now.

Anyways......
Let it get to point of dripping.

2. Start engine, count to 1 thousand 6
Shut her down
More oil pouring into drain pan from pump, filter, journals, and top end.
Put body weight on drain plug side, rock on vehicle up and down.
More oil comes out.

3. Put plug back in.
4. Yank filter, which comes out dry.
5. Replace filter.
6. Fill your "5 qt capacity system" with 6 qts.
7. Run for 5 mins.
8. Shut down check your filter and plug for leaks.
You are a MO if they are leaking or extremely limp wristed...
LOL!!
9. Check dipstick after bout 10 mins. Smoke a cigg in that time.
10. From the 7th qt you bought (in addition to that 6qt bulky)
Add the additional 1/4 th to 1/2 qt needed to bring it up to the top cross hatches.
11. Short drive to open thermostat.
12. Get home check dipstick after 10 mins shut down.

GTG.....
cold level next morning
GTG top of the cross hatches in the GTG zone....

All used oil goes back into the jugs.
Into the trash can.
Not a captain planet type and oil came from the ground anyways right??? No better place again to start that cycle than at the county dump...
Lol!!!

GTG........

Jiffy lubers dont sweat it.
The monkey in the pit is taking care of ya...
Oil change places are 100% honest and competent.
They never half azz schit or rip people off.
No expose vids exist to prove that....

Hint .....
Make a mark on your filter if ya can, known to you.
Little scratch or something.
Take a pic before and after.

Go get your oil and filter changed .

Check that new filter back at possibly casa el duped...
You might get surprised/ pissed, or have a peice of mind.

Now everyone can tell me about rainbowed bearings and valve stem/ guide issues and collasped hydraulic lifters.
GO!!!!!

Hence the disclaimer. Dont do what I do...

......................LOL..........I use a place called "Oil Stop" here in So Cal. Basically the same as a Jiffy Lube. Don't use their oil filter or any of their oil. I bring my own stuff and they install it. And the oil and filter that I bring DOES get installed. I am standing right there and peek underneath too. And at my request they do not re-install the drain plug until I see that there is only a slow drip drip drip.

Magnetic oil drain plug uh? Maybe my 2015 Ram Hemi has one as OE? I dunno. Still using the original.

Now have 86K on the truck. Though I don't think that I'm gonna have any of the internal engine issues that you mention for quite a "long long long long" time. And I won't need to manipulate my body weight in any way either.

Cuz when you use 5-20 Amsoil Signature Series (their best) along with using their extended life oil filter at my preferred change intervals of every 15K miles, then there is no need to do what you do................lol............

So you pay someone to change your oil basically.
And you bring your own filter and oil.......

Your input has no bearing on this thread dude.
No offense but........

LOL!!!
.......Lol....Probably not.....But if I did my own still using my stuff, I still would not do what u do....lol
...

If you got that extra 1.25 to 1.50 qts outta your oil system.
You probably get another 1250- 1500 miles outta a oil change running high end oil in it like you do.
JMO....

That stuff not getting outta your system now is basically becoming diluted old oil mixed in with your new oil being put in.

That has been my mind set changing it the way I do.

It aint extra work really.
Bout another 20 mins added to a normal drain the pan oil change.

..........................You may be right in getting more oil out by starting the engine for a few seconds. But! I will take my chances. Kinda disagree running any engine with very little oil if only for just a few seconds......Besides, Amsoil recos changing their Signature Series oil every 25K miles. In the research I have read, some have gone 35K miles with it, changing the filter every 12K or so, then draining it and then sending their oil samples in for independent analysis......Could a gone 50K according to the analysis reports. That is how good Amsoil Signature Series really is.

So I am not the least bit worried about leaving a little oil within the upper regions of my Hemi at every 15K mile change interval. Lets see now!...Been driving for about 50 years and have driven somewhere between guessing 1.2 million to maybe 1.4 million miles. No vehicle I have owned has ever had any internal engine issues even though I have driven some vehicles over 200K miles before selling them. I only started using Amsoil for the first time about 50K miles ago for my truck.

So imho, my experience tells me that it is un-necessary to start any engine when nearly dry if only for a few seconds to get a little extra oil out. And because I use Amsoil and because it is that good, all the more reason why I will not take that approach...

Got an old POS Craftsman riding mower that refuses to die. Older Kohler motor on it. The rest of the mower is falling apart but I will keep running it, so long as that motor keeps chugging and the transmission works.

Thats interesting. I went up to the camp yesterday and couldn't start my fairly new craftsman mower with a Briggs. Quick look at the plug showed no gas, so I pulled the carb. When I saw it was plastic I though how much could a new carb cost, I could just order one and not mess with cleaning out the old one. A quick check online showed the plastic carb was $44 plus shipping so I opened up the old one and cleaned it out. It maybe a cheap plastic carb, but it was really easy to work on. As long as I don't have to do it every year I will be happy with it

Next year when it won't start, just take the air cleaner off and squirt some carb cleaner in it. The carb cleaner burns like gasoline and will make it fire up for a few seconds everytime you give it a shot. After 3 or 4 shots of carb cleaner it'll open up and run.

I go through the process every spring with a little push mower I have.
