I spoke with gun smith Jim Kobe a couple of weeks ago about installing a two position Wisner wing safety on the old 03A3 Springfield I gifted to my grandson. Any way, I sent it off to him in Minnesota last week and had explained to him my two grandsons and I have a early August caribou hunt coming up as they both drew a one time Youth Caribou permit. He assured me he would have it done in time.
Jim just called me and said it is done and the gun will be heading back to Alaska tomorrow. I am beyond surprised at the turn around time and I am sure the Youth Permit was a consideration. I very much appreciate his efforts and will use him again.
The old battle rifle is now a 338-06 wearing a Boyd's stock that we will reshape and it will eventually get a good set of iron sights and a black satin Cerakote finish. We are keeping the original reliable military trigger.
I am hoping the rifle will like 210 grain Barnes TTSX bullets.

I have had Mr. Kobe work on a couple projects for me. Good communication and good turn around on both. No complaints...

Recently completed some work for me. Honest, fair, great work, and turn around was very good. If needing work done, I wouldn’t hesitate a bit.

He did a couple of minor things for me. Same as above. Quality, reasonable pricing, quick turnaround and good comms. I would recommend him for anything from a cut and crown to a full custom.

Jim has installed several recoil pads for me, always the best quality work, fairly priced and delivered quickly.

I called him yesterday and told him I just mailed his check and he said he is mailing rifle back to me even though he has not received my personal check. How I wish we had a gunsmith like him on the Kenai Peninsula, I would keep him busy.

Jim has done 3 woodstock customs for me and other work. He is a great guy that doesn't spend his time patting himself on the back, he just has a great work ethic!

About three weeks ago, I took Jim a Rem 700 action and a stock. He had ordered me a Shilen barrel earlier and it actually arrived when I was at his shop. I told him what I wanted in the finished gun. And I said, no rush on my part. Three days later, he called and said it’s done. I’ve shot it, and it is vey accurate.
