Did anyone mention 223 and 30-06? Yes. I'm not sure if I saw it before but the .223 and the 30-06. kwg

Any of these pairings would be a good choice.
1. 7mm Remington Mag and 7mm-08 2. 30-06 and 308
All are excellent from elk to deer and you can use the same diameter bullets in each pair.

Been using 222 and 6.5 creedmoor the most. But one from each category, varmint and deer, would handle the same stuff.

Easy answer - 223 Rem & 308, or 30/06 - depending on which cartridge you prefer, what one will do the other will do also.

223 Rem, my favorite cartridge - you can't argue with truckloads of dead PD's and gophers.

Uugh... 223 and 308 I guess.
Two subpar military cartridges pushed by "somebody" in the US Military, when there clearly was better options on the table... Classic Americana.
They are ok for hunting though..

Ok, just because survey. Pick two centerfire cartridges (no rimfires or shotguns) fired in a rifle for varmints to whatever in North America. Doesn’t matter if you handload or not.
Go. I have done this here (in Australia), I went with 22 hornet and 7x64 Brenneke.
These are my opinions, feel free to disagree.
