Just had a former student reach out of me online....... Now I get it when I post these things it might sound like I'M taking credit. Not so. After thirty-plus years I've got like 2,500 former students at least from that one high school, so a few are gonna be exceptional. This was the guy, raised by his grandparents, that used to wash planes in return for flying lessons, took me up twice while he was still in high school in a Cessna with his Instructor in the passenger seat. He joined the Navy right out of high school, has done six deployments so far Says combat air control is way more fun than air traffic control. Wife, child, less than ten years left until retirement. He rocks ...and I'm a happy camper this evening

If combat air control is anything like the forward air control I did, it is THE most difficult flying job ever created. You have so much going on, in four dimensions, and with every single decision you make a life or death one for somebody, including yourself. That job took multi-tasking to the umpteenth degree. Looking back, it astounds me that I was capable of it.

Dunno if he flies on the job Rocky, ain’t gonna ask him, I do know back in high school he loved all that flying/military jargon, had a verbal delivery like Sergeant Joe Friday 🙂
Seems like he found his niche and the Navy likes him too. Always a joy when a kid makes good.

Those guys are badass Tell him we said “Thank you for your service!”🇺🇸 yep that's a hardcore series. Im sure Captain menstration, SACHARLIE, with his vast military experience, could provide more input lmao

Your young man has achieved something beyond incredible. Please take a modicum of credit. I was a JTAC (Joint Terminal Attack Controller)... basically a second MOS the rough equivalent of a FAC but not a pilot. JTAC school was about a month long and probably the most academically challenging thing I've been through. And man you're not kidding... the multi-tasking a FAC / JTAC / Fire Support Leader has to do is insane

Read Alone at Dawn. Decent book about a combat air controller who won the Medal of Honor.
