My truck, a 1991 Toyota Tacoma 4X4 V-6 has overheating issues.
Fan clutches seem to last a few years then go out.

Any thoughts on replacing the factory engine driven fan with an aftermarket, electric fan ?
I’m looking at the “Flex-O-Lite, Black Magic” 3,000 CFM with a built in shroud.

A fan clutch should last more than "a few years". Seems like there could be another problem causing the clutch failure. Changed the water pump yet? Junkyard parts?

That is a solid choice. You do want a puller.

My fan clutches have been aftermarket, claimed OME quality.
Factory uses "Asin" brand.

It's a major pain to replace them, I don't want to risk doing the job again, and having another one go out.

I'm looking at the black magic "puller", with a radiator shroud, there are cheaper options, but this looks like the best option.
Reviews claim it's quieter and cools better than the factory engine driven fan, and it removes about 3 - 4 lbs that the engine is turning.

That is likely your answer then. Been there, done that with aftermarket stuff. I’ve been in the repair business for over 40 years and have learned the hard way that aftermarket claims of OE quality are usually just that, claims. I’ve not yet found a single electric fan, puller or pusher, that would move as much air as an engine driven fan, unless you used dual electrics. Important thing to know is how many cfm the stock fan will move with a good fan clutch and then shop for electric, if you’re determined to go that way.
