According the the wording of the law I read, if you already possess those things on the banned list, AND have a certificate from the USFW from prior to 1 Jan 2021, you are allowed to possess those banned items.

Bona fide educational institutions also.

CA banned bear hunting with dogs many years ago. Banned all lion hunting. Can hunt but not sell bobcat pelts. All that kinda sucks. A lot.

Yeah but nobody required any certificate from the USFW to conform to the law, and none were offered, unless this is very recent. Catch 22.

Don;t know when it was instituted, maybe one of our African hunters can let us know, but I believe there's been an import law for a few years (20+?) that requires USFW certification and/or inspection. Again, I've been mistaken before and will likely be again someday.

To import certain African animals you need a CITES permit. That is what was needed to bring my Blesbok over.

Some animals like lion, elephant and I think leopard cannot be imported at all.

Yep, CITES permit, and CITES is an international entity. Unless things have changed in the last year, you could import all 3 depending on which African country you hunted. Conservation Force has been extremely instrumental in helping folks with all the paperwork, legalities, etc.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Lions was 2016 and elephants was IIRC during the obama administration. I think leopard was the same time as elephants.

Heck, I could (used to) see mountains from where I sit now. And forest down in the Kenai River valley was lovely when the colors came on in the fall. Damned trees are now blocking the view of the forest.

I'd restore the view (4 hours, tops, excepting the cleanup) , but State Parks would be all over my ass..... smile.

Well, Jack (head ranger) didn't have any problem cutting more than a thousand trees to maintain the view from the headquarters building a few hundred yards away, so that was "in the State's interest" as he put it.

Funny how that works...

Back to the OP. Law bans "import" but not "possession" - is that right?

How is "import" defined? International or inter-state differences? If International paperwork is in order, can one not "import" the thing to a neighboring state and then bring it home? Who is to know whether that head on the wall does or does not not have CA "approval" - grandfathered in - if one keeps his trap shut. U-haul is rather anonamous.... as is 2 a,m. for the unloading in decent neighborhoods. Mostly.

Funny, that your interests and AK's interests do not overlap in regards to your views, eh?

But, the Headquarters bldg likely gets some visitors, big wigs of a sort, now and again, so the view must be "purty" for them.

They can see the mountains from their front porch.

Cool.

Liberals have no problem with government over-reach, til it costs too much. They’ll vote for it again, where it’s cheaper.

Most are hoping to get a ‘Covid’ bailout.......to cover their unfunded government pension liabilities.

Let stupid hurt. No bailout.

+1, my thoughts exactly.

Can we take away their right to vote, when they move?

A sort of ‘felony’ relocation charge?

A good question for Tarquin.

Let’s talk about the here and now.

Not back in Reagan’s day.

Not imagine/pretend, 20 years from now.

Right now, you live in an increasingly idiotic State.

Neither of you have a problem with it.

Good for you.

For now?

For how much longer?

https://www.weirtondailytimes.com/news/local-news/2019/12/will-iowa-swing-red-or-blue-in-2020/

Quote
In 2008, its voters propelled Barack Obama to the White House, as an overwhelmingly white state validated the candidacy of the first black president. A year later, Iowa’s Supreme Court sanctioned same-sex marriage, adding a voice of Midwestern sensibility to a national shift in public sentiment. In 2012, Iowa backed Obama again.

Quote
Iowans unseated two Republican U.S. House members — and nearly a third — in 2018 during midterm elections where more Iowa voters in the aggregate chose a Democrat for federal office for the first time in a decade.

In doing so, Iowans sent the state’s first Democratic women to Congress: Cindy Axne, who dominated Des Moines and its suburbs, and Abby Finkenauer, who won in several working-class counties Trump carried.

Quote
“I don’t believe it was temporary,” Iowa State University economist David Swenson said of Democrats’ 2018 gains in suburban Des Moines and Cedar Rapids. “I think it is the inexorable outcome of demographic and educational shifts that have been going on.”

Ouch, Iowa going the way of California? Going to be dominated by the bigger metro areas?

Better be ready MIKE. Pretty soon, granola gonna be served to them Iowa school children instead of Corn Flakes.

Don't be scared, those libs in Iowa aren't prone to butt raping......................................yet.

OH, and when that all comes to pass.........................................I'll still be able to see a real mountain range from my porch.

Will you?

Reagan fit that "California Conservative " definition.
A 15 day waiting period, that was later reduced to 10 days for firearms purchases and a moratorium on mountain lion hunting.
A HIGHLY Overrated "conservative" as far as I'm concerned.

Where did either of us say we don't have a problem with it?

Should we gather those of us from the red areas of the state and march on Sacramento and physically remove the Legislators we don't like from office?

Maybe if a few million of you "conservatives" would move to these places with mountains, you could help us change the politics here. Instead of telling us to move..........but not to your state.

Those of us who lived here during his administration know that.

Some others see him as the Savior of the GOP.

Don’t get too comfortable there in Florida as per the last governor’s election.

When you guys or Texas gets flipped all of our asses have had it and it won’t much matter which state that you live.

There’s a much bigger picture here than liberal California.

Not preaching.
