Anyone know what the SAAMI/CIP failure pressure the M760 is rated at?

The M760 was chambered for the 270 Win. Saami 65,000 psi.

Just a guess, but in addition to the .270 was the .244/6mm Rem. I'd guess the kitchen table handloaders probably stoked that cartridge well above SAAMI.

I've had several M760 in both 270 and 30-06. I shot 100s of warm handloads in them without issue.

Yup and SB dies are not required. Reg FL resizing has worked fine for me in the past.

All of the above has been my experience as well, in 760s that have included a .270, .30-06 and .35 Whelen.

I know of one person who blew up a 760. he sent the gun to Remington and their reply was the action was sprung out and not repairable an obvious overload. it was a 270 with 130 gr and imr 4320. it was estimated to exceed 80,000 psi. he admitted to a mistake to me years later. no injury but blew out through the magazine a spread the action noticeably. This happened probably, 50 years ago

When Remington stopped production of the M141 and brought out the M760 a few were made in 300H&H caliber but never made it past the R&D processing

SAAMI max for the 300 H&H is 54,000 PSI, 11,000 less than the 270.

No, the standard maximum for the .300 H&H is 54,000 CUP--copper units of pressure, which is a different thing than PSI, since it's tested electronically rather than with copper crushers.

The maximum average SAAMI PSI for the .300 H&H is 58,000 PSI--still less than the .270's, but not as much.

Based on considerable experience with the .300 H&H I would guess the big difference was NOT the pressure, but the tapered .300 H&H case. It was originally designed to allow easier extraction in bolt-action rifles with very temp-sensitive Cordite powder. In fact, original British ammo often came in two versions, a max-pressure loading for "normal" temperatures (basically the British isles), and a tropical version for the hotter parts of the Empire.

Post-WWII American powders were far less temp-sensitive than Cordite, but not nearly as many made today. I would guess the tappered .300 H&H case did not always extract well in the 760 action, at least partly due to temperature.
