The Army aint sticking a finger in the process, it is some liberal senator. Promotion list has to be confirmed by the Senate first.
Yup, it's Duckworth that's trying to blackmail the Army into promoting Vindman by holding up the promotion list. Commissioned officer promotions have to be confirmed by the senate. Normally that's a rubber stamp deal, they show up, drink their coffee and a quick voice vote is done on the issue. I doubt most senators even know what they're voting on. Duckworth is threatening to hold up the entire thing unless Vindman is on the promotion list, which I highly doubt he is right now. I can't imagine a more career ending move than being removed from your job by the President and being escorted out of the office at the National Security Council. That in itself should have generated an adverse fitness report which would be a career ender. The resume bullets Sycamore posted are standard military fluff. It actually sounds pretty weak for a Lt. Col. over the last 20 years. The military has a way of writing these things to make it sound like some real schitbags are the second coming of MacArthur. I just basically showed up for work and mine would still sound halfway impressive to somebody that wasn't used to reading them. You've got to read between the lines to figure out what these military bios are really saying. His isn't saying much.

How about Trump just have the guy promoted to flag rank, where he's vulnerable, then fire his ass like Obama fired a bunch of actual Soldiers?

Trump, as Commander In Chief right now, should put every General and Officer on notice: Do what I order you to do or get fired, with forfeiture of all Retirement and Benefits.

Hard to get promoted to 0-6 without battalion staff and command time. Interesting that he didn't get a Bronze Star for his combat tour (most of his contemporaries have several combat tours). Plus he appears to be a little overweight. Looks like a problem child. Bob Yep they were handing out Bronze Stars left and right to the officers on my 3 trips overseas. Honestly 4 ARCOMs isn't exactly impressive either. Hell I had 3 as an E-5.

Way too many commissioned officers. Cull 3/4 of them, let the Warrants run things. preach it. only commissioned officers need be in combat arms. all others, warrant. sure, expand warrants up to, say, cwo9 just like Es and commissioned Os so highly skilled men or good managers can get career advancement and pay.

Vindman should be processed by the promotion board just like everyone else. He looked like a fat boy in photos so he may not be eligible..... who cares Vindman completed the Infantry Officer Basic Course (IOBC) at Fort Benning in 1999 and was sent the next year to South Korea, where he commanded both infantry and anti-armor platoons.[4] In addition to overseas deployments to South Korea and Germany, Vindman is a combat veteran of the Iraq War, and he served in Iraq from September 2004 to September 2005.[3] In October 2004,[3] he sustained an injury from a roadside bomb in Iraq, for which he received a Purple Heart.[4] He was promoted to the rank of major in 2008,[10] and to lieutenant colonel in September 2015.[11]
During his Army career, Vindman earned the Ranger Tab, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, and Parachutist Badge, as well as four Army Commendation Medals and two Defense Meritorious Service Medals.[3] Is always good to get military analysis from Captain Crunch who never served.
