I am ready to order my CDS dial for my Leupold 3.5-10 VX-3. I have all the data for my load but which ballistic coefficient should I use for the 6.5 143 eld-x the G1 or the G7? The G1 is listed as .625 and the G7 as .315.
You should ask the guys engraving your dial. Don't ask a third party. Maybe they will use either according to your personal preference. Even though some would disagree, Leupold does know what they are doing.
That said, I would go with this:
I'd just get it hashed in 1/4 MOA to adjust for all loads/bullets/atmospherics. As an added bonus if/when it doesn't track or return to zero you can then readjust easier...grin .
Your custom engraved dial is only going to work with one bullet, at one velocity, at one set of atmospherics. Any deviation from those is going to cause a deviation in the amount of drop/drift. I guess it doesn't matter as much in PA as it does in the Western states, but bullets will fly quite differently at 70 degrees and 70% humidity than they will at 10 degrees and 40% humidity, particularly as you get beyond "standard" ranges for a particular cartridge.
