Stupid post. The only ones onboard are sailors and maybe some marines. I spent 25 years in the USN and was on 2 ships that had fires and one that had a boiler explosion. This is a very dangerous situation and has nothing to do with politics.

This post makes you look really foolish.

So, they only let muzzies in the army, right?

Sheesh. Talk about stupid. wink

You know something? You're an idiot. What proof do you have that a "muzzy" was involved? I'm going to bet that you have never been in the military in any branch. You're one of those ignorant fools that talk tough but deep down, you're a pussy. On the ignore list you go.

Reading isnt your strong suit pal.

I simply ASKED A FUGHKING QUESTION.

Maybe go back and read it again.

Well, that settles it. A witness said there was a loud explosion.

Muzzies never set off any explosions. My bad. wink whistle

This is the third Bonhomme Richard. She is an active ship. Judging by the equipment on the flight deck I would assume

that she in for refit. Looks like they are about to move the Aegis destroyer from the other side of the pier. They opened the

'fence' a while ago.

Thanks for your service. My step-dad was on a carrier in the Pacific during that time. Engineer's mate I think. Oil fired steam monster of a beast to keep running by the sound of it.

LOL.... I herd that too. Probably its no longer possible for a news person to say "assault" without adding "rifle" to the equation. laugh

The latest I heard was that the fire resulted from a welding accident/incident below deck while the ship was being refitted in port. No mention if the welder was a muzzie or not... grin

It's official. I missed the selfie deadline so I'm Maser's sock puppet because rene and the Polish half of the fubar twins have decided that I am.

There was a class C fire that spread to a magazine on the port side. I don’t know what type of ordnance was in the mag. Of course on Sunday only the duty section was on board so it got out of control very quickly. The last I heard, it still wasn’t contained. USN and San Diego fire department are fighting the fires. This could get really bad.

That sucks. On the fortunate side, I'm glad she's in port. A fire at sea is about as close to hell on earth as one can get.

Since she was under maintenance, I'd assume that all munitions and aircraft fuel would've been offloaded.

That's what I was hoping regarding munitions & fuel.... In port for all that work; some of which involved welding. Wouldn't they remove all or most of that stuff ? For fire safety reasons due to welding and or cutting ? I sure hope so. It's been mentioned a couple times already but thank God they aren't out to sea somewhere.

She wasn’t in a major overhaul, just a short routine maintenance availability called a CMAV. They don’t defuel or necessarily offload ammo unless they are doing hot work near a fuel tank or magazine. There’s always a possibility that hot work could have started the fire. We probably won’t know for sure what happened for some time.

If not too much trouble, can someone mention a bit about this type of ship's role and capabilities are?

Reminds me that I need to be more diligent with hot work in the garage. It'd sure suck to set it off

Local San Diego TV says the fire is expected to burn several days?

They did not mention what was the fueling the fire.
