Drew Wyoming cow elk tag for area 6. Plan on hunting around Buford in November. Don't know the area at all. Any help would be appreciated.

Don’t know that area, but best of luck on your hunt!

bullyelk , go to the Wyoming Game and Fish web site, lots and lots of good info there. The unit has a 50% success rate, my bet is that there are some nice bulls there,

There is a herd of elk there.
You didn’t say what type of tag you have, it will make a difference ie Type 4 is valid on National Forest land and Type 6 is valid only off National Forest land.
If you have a Type 6 tag you’ll need access somewhere.
If you have a Type 4 tag there is a network of roads that intersect Hwy 210/Happy Jack Rd. I don’t see the elk often, they stay pretty hidden, so get out/glass/scout etc. There was a Pole Mountain National Forest Map that had the roads on it. It’s a high recreation area in warm months. You probably won’t see a lot of that in November because it’s too early for cross country skiing but too cold for sitting around drinking beer.

This is about what the terrain looks like. 7500-9000 ft but mostly in the 8500 ft range.

November at 8,000ft can be, uh, zesty, bracing. Those photos show similar vegetation and altitude of where we hunt but a lot flatter. In Nov, the cows will be bunched up. If you find some, you'll find a bunch of them. The bulls will be nearby but don't be surprised if you see 50-100 cows and not a single bull. They'll move back with the cows later.
