Looking for a newer pickup. 3/4 ton, extended cab, not crew cab. Pretty much eliminates Dodge, darn it.
Will be towing a smallish 5th wheel I haven't bought yet. Thinking gas rather than diesel. Wore out several F250s at work. Liked them fine, they had the 5.4 engine, never had to tow with one.
I like GM products, cab requirement would eliminate one newer than 2013.
Wanting to keep purchase price around $20,000. I know that will vary by location.
How are the "newer" Ford and Chevy 6 liter gas engines? How about transmissions.
Fire away.
Thanks, Bob.

Look at the trucks in the dealers lot. My extended cab Dodge is suddenly called a crew cab. ???

Good luck, Bob!
I've been looking for a new one. There are none on the lot around here, anywhere. On-line our local Ford dealer claims to have 44 trucks in stock, the dealership is 5 minutes away and they have about a dozen trucks, all the same exact model. Ram dealership in town claims 68 trucks in stock! They have ZERO on the lot. Gee, it almost seems dishonest...
Anyway, between Ford or Chevy is a no brainer for me! I am driving a 1998 Chevy that I bought new and there's no doubt I shoulda bought Ford!

Co-worker just traded a 2018 Ford F150 for a new Dodge W1500 last weekend. Ford truck had a vibration in rear end at certain speeds for the full two years he owned the truck. Back to the Ford dealer multiple times. Dealer was only interested in replacing things on his nickel. He googled the issue. Turned out to be a very common problem. However, up to the dealers to fix it properly. And dealers typically would drag it out as long as possible at the owner's expense to avoid eating the warranty cost...
Sample size of one. However, I would google Ford F150 rear end vibration. At a minimum, do an extended test drive of the specific truck you are interested in at various speeds to ensure it does not have a vibration issue.

Thanks, Bob. I'd go get one of those new Ford F250's with the 7.3 GASOLINE engine. Hell, I'd probably swap my diesel for one.

I drive exactly what you are looking for, personally and at work. F250 4x4 extended cab with the 6.2 gas and 6sp auto. I bought my personal one due to the fact that the guys at work abuse the crap out of the fleet trucks on and off road day after day an they just keep going. According to our chief fleet mechanic the 6.2 has been the least troublesome and longest lasting engine he’s ever had in the fleet. Plus it’ll feel like a racehorse compared to the 5.4s you’re used to.

A truck is a truck. Look for low miles and good maintenance. Don’t get in a hurry and you’ll find a deal.

Woody Folsom has some trucks in Baxley, probably none in the $20K range though.

What do you think of the Ford 6.2?[/quote] Buddy of mine sold his (older) Dodge Cummins and bought a newer F-250 with the 6.2. He loves it. Says you know it's a gas by the way it drives, but it does everything he wants it to do, including towing his smaller 5th wheel toy hauler. He lives at around 6500 ft. elevation and usually goes up to camp.

Saw lots of 6.2's out in the oilfield. They were pretty tough. The new ones are more money, for sure. But I'd trade the fancy options for a more basic truck any day. I did in fact. Mine's a pretty basic work truck. I love it. After having the top of the line Ford and Ram pickups, I think I like "simple" better. Kinda hard to find a decent used pickup for $20k though. That may change as off-lease and oil field vehicles start to enter the used market though. New is $38k and less whatever rebates Ford has... https://www.bbmotors.com/new-New+Braunfels-2020-Ford-Super+Duty+F+250+SRW-XL-1FT7X2AN1LED48882

You are wrong on GM not making an extended cab. They still make the extended cab, they just call it a ‘double cab’ and the doors make it look like a short crew cab. I have a 2016 2500HD double cab with the 6.0 gas. Engine is bulletproof, drinks gas, and tows most things just fine.

Do you have any local banks who have repo auctions? I bought my last truck at one. 06 F-150 XLT 4x4 for $2700. I’ve driven it for two years now with zero problems.

The Ford 6.2 is a proven, time-tested engine. Great choice, but you'll have a hard time finding one for 20K. Used truck prices are outrageous.
