I foolishly sold my Pre-64 Winchester Model 70 .300 H&H Magnum a few years ago and have been kicking myself ever since. I recently posted Want to Buy adds on a couple of boards and found this 1953 version for a good price. It's in great shape for being 67 years old and still has the rear sight, front sight hood, and the action is smooth as can be. It's a shooter, not a collector, so even the pad is welcome. It also came complete with the Leupold VX2 4-12x40mm. I just picked it up a couple of days ago and haven't shot it yet, but the previous owner sent a picture of some targets showing it has potential.... Left and middle are three shots, and I believe the one on the right is five.

Thats cool you found one in H&H that hasn't been re-chambered to wby. Thanks for sharing
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I believe it's all original other than the pad and I don't think the stock has been cut. Numbers match on the receiver and the bolt. No extra holes.

Nice to find one in near orig condition esp if the stock has not been cut. Easy to fix if so desired. Not sure I'd use that scope on that rifle. Might look for a gloss Leupold of some sort, maybe a M8 4 power.

Anyone who owns a 300H&H needs to book a moose hunt at least once.

Ping pong balls for the win. Once you've wrestled everything else in life is easy. Dan Gable I keep my circle small, I’d rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.
Ain’t easy havin pals.

Looks like it has serious potential with the 165's. Never tried them in mine but the Nosler 180 Partitions with H4831 print about the same as the last target all day long.... my son loves that rifle for elk and has pretty much claimed it .....

The stock may not have been cut. This grade originally came with hard plastic Winchester butt plate. The original LOP for Winchester of that vintage was 34.5cm over plastic butt plate. These can be found at lower prices because factory ammunition is expensive and difficult to find. The least expensive are Hornady loads which are out of stock at most places.

Forgot to mention my son killed a moose in Alberta Peace River area with his. As he was ready to shoot, it turned and ran directly away from us. He hit it about 1" left of the anus and we found the Nosler 180 Partition bullet bulging the skin in his chest right between his legs. Everything in between was mush... He loves that rifle and still hunts elk with it every year over all my rifles he has to choose from....

That’s a beautiful area of the world Bob. Neat that you were able to share it with your son.
