I posted the same question over in the long range forum, but didn’t get any responses. Figured I’d try here too. I’m looking for recommendations for a range finder that will reliably range deer/elk size critters out to 1000 yards. I’ve got a Nikon currently, that will only reliably range to 600, sometimes 700 yards. I’m looking for something small enough to tuck in a rangefinder pouch attached to my bino harness. Price is a consideration, but at the same time, I realize that you get what you pay for in most cases. What do you guys recommend?

I’ve been running a Sig Kilo 2200 and it’s been very good. The Vortex Ranger 1800 or Vortex 4000 are others that seem very popular. If price isn’t a problem then a Sig 2400 or Gunwerks BR2 are others to look at but don’t fit in most rangefinder pouches.

Have you considered a Leica?

I only have experience with one. It's a Leica. I have no need to look further.

Does Leica make a model that’s compact and will fit in a fhf gear or kuiu rangefinder pouch?

I just picked up a Leica from Doug. Absolutely amazing. Gave my Nikon to my son.
Thank you Doug. It was a pleasure doing business with you.

The Leica 2400R is a compact unit that will reliably range deer and elk over a 1000 yards. I’ve ranged elk at 1300+ and trees and rocks at 2300+
Politicians and Diapers both need to be changed often, and for the same reason!

I have bought (4) Leicas. 2 for guys I hunt with. 2 for me, with one as a back up [but I only lose GPS units]

I'm only on my 8th LRF. Hint. Firstly,Leica's GREAT undoing and Dumbfhuqktitude,is that they'll only correct inclination to the 1200yd line(NO matter the Model of LRF/BRF) . Hint. Secondly, they suck wayyyyyyyyyy hind tit in measuring distances,as compared to Sig(which will correct inclination to the distance of it's capabilities). Hint. The Leeker 2700,can't begin to hang with a "lowly" Kilo 2200,as Sig's hit WELL above their relative "rating" and Leeker WELL "below". Hint. Now are the OP's current requisites capably covered? Yep. That being said,I cain't personally see spending way more,to get way less. Leekers do NOT carve their way through troubled atmospheres,as a Sig will and that BREAKS alotta hearts and seals the deal. Seen it.(grin) HINT. In fairness, the BR2 is a sad sack piece of schit in comparison too. Hint. Pardon the bubble bursting. Hint. LAUGHING!..................
