Getting ready for winter.

So you are anticipating a long hard winter? I'll take note and behave accordingly.

BTW I think the shirt is green. If it's yellow I'd better get eyes checked.

Love those girl cow pokes. Just like "Yellowstone" I reckon. Sure do brighten up the old bunkhouse.

Best line from "Yellowstone" so far, "Freakin' barrel racers." TFF (Had to change it to get past the censor but you all can figger it out.)

Thanks for posting, Jim.

Finally a branding day with a squeeze chute. All the Ranchers around here round them up and run them through the chute for shots, then get on horses and rope them out of a pen?

Never made much sense to me, but elk hunting access ain't exactly free...

Not any more.

Its easier to find a bander than a cutter.

Used to though.

That's a nice brand. About as good of a 2-iron brand you could get.

What bander are you using Jim. I have a calicrate, but generally use the "California" bander now. Cheaper faster and easier to use from the side. But its hard to keep good pressure if you are doing a lot of big calves whereas the callicrate is so easy a caveman could do it.

I tried to slit the bag last year as the vet recommended i start. I work alone so dont have anyone to tail them. Found out quick a calf can kick damn hard in about any direction. Screw it, the extra week to fall off dont hurt me none.

We just use rubber rings unless they get too big.

If we are doing some late calvers or something, we use the calicrate(sp?) bander.

How old are the calves when you castrate?

Had not heard about slitting the bag.

Getter done Jim!

We actually branded the LAST of the calves today.

Mini branding, 9 head. Got 'em hauled out of here and out to a larger pasture. Down to 3 open cows on feed.

You guys look a little drier than here.

thanks for the pics Jim,

them little critters sure are cute.

My wife thinks I'm funny (as in crazy funny) when the calves are dropping here and every field we go by I say "Look, baby burgers"

Thanks to all you cattle guys for the good eats. It's much appreciated here.

Band at weaning the last couple years. Hoping to have a corral built at the other farm by next spring.

Really its just to big of a pain to run them up and down the road here to work them with the traffic. That and i had the big banders from buying stocker calves so there wasnt any expense in waiting.

If it wasnt for the occasional b*tch with ear, i'ld do it at birth... But i live alone and i'ld like to be found before i'm bloated and drawing flies.
