This seems odd to me. Fires are such a huge problem on a ship that measures are taken to minimize the chances and yet here are two others:

Fires on ships in the USN are not uncommon. They actually happen all the time. Mostly electrical fires but every once in a while something like a pile of rags or paper goes up in flames usually when improperly stowed. Fuel fires don't happen as often but are also not that unusual. Normally they are put out quickly with minimal damage or impact. But the Bon Homme Richard fire has the press looking for things now. A serious fire calls attention to the next fire.
