We ate the last of the mourning doves last night. Currently have 57 Eurasians in the freezer. Time to start knocking some down.

How do the collared doves taste...? I’ve had mournings and white wings, but never Eurasians. There are bunches of em’ year round where I live.

I'm with you! My favorite sport. Do you guys get occasional Rock Pigeon flybys? They are some kind of tough to bring down. What are your limits this year?

I’m really looking forward to the dove opener. It’s a big family event for us. We shoot morning, shrimp boil for lunch then back at it for an evening waterhole shoot.
Then do it all over at different locations on day two. Lots of small gauge guns in use.

I have eaten quite a few. If there eating what the Mornings are eating they are just as good and there is more of them. Just my 2 cents.

One Of the few things I miss about living in VA is the dove opener. The Antis in MI have somehow been convinced they are a songbird and shouldn’t be hunted. It was a good chance for me to shoot a lot without much result since I suck with a shotgun. Good eats, though. Good times.

I'm a heathen....When I go moose hunting September 5-25 at my remote cabin, I'm considering taking the 20 for spruce grouse on the sandbars.. Screw that small flying stuff, or .22.... If I do it right, I'll get two or more with each shot. Then land and go back into the trees for the rest, or more anyway. I'll need the pressure canner and some quart jars, too... smile

And a 12 for geese, maybe.

How long the trip lasts depends on the moose getting or we get tired of it, run out of food, breakdowns, need repairs......

Squirrel season opens Sept. 1st here. I've always looked forward to that . We don't have a dove season here.

They do taste the same, but can be a little chewier if grilled. We debone, and fry them like chicken nuggets.
