My guess is the dumbass fired warning shots and the guy in the car took full advantage of being warned. Be interesting to know what really transpired, we know the results were excellent. I agree about the probability of warning shots, the small blue hatchback in the video lower down on the link comes in from the right of screen at the thirty second mark, looks like he could see the demonstrators in front of him in the intersection where he was probably looking, wasn’t aware that his right hand turn was blocked to the degree it was, his brake lights come on right away. ALL the crowd we can see rushes the car, easy prey, sprinting towards it. A moment later mass panic, the tide turns. These are the sort of people doing these demonstrations, and hard to spot any Black folks in the crowd.

If you look, you can see that the demonstrators were mostly past the intersection. The driver of the blue car probably thought he could slide right at the intersection and probably miss most of it. Instead, they swarmed him and shot at him.
