I've never experienced Cowboy Shooting but I'm sure a lot of people enjoy it. Some years ago a neighbor of mine took in a Rossi Model 65 in 44-40 in trade for some car repairs. Him not being a shooter, his wife got nervous about the gun in the house. So he approached me about buying it. I didn't really need/want it but when he was asking for $200 (and a box of ammo for it) I decided to pick it up. From my inspection of the rifle, I doubt it had fired more than the 6 rounds missing from the box. There was no sign of any wear anywhere on it. I found some brass & bullets so I plan on getting it to the range this summer and see how it works.

I was given an 1892 .44-40 20 years ago. It sat in my office for a few years before I shot it. It is my favorite to shoot now, very accurate.

Light load of 8 grains of Unique and a 200 - 220 grain cast bullets for fun shooting @ 1100 FPS.

Heavier load of RL-7 or IMR 4198 for hunting or longer distance steel.

The lighter load is all that you really need. A search will provide a wealth of valuable info from Campfire members.

Thanks, 30Gibbs. I don't recall how I loaded my current rounds (they're marked in my reloading manual but not in my head). I have the molds to cast my own lead bullets in the future.
