Does anyone have accurate information as to how Blaser R93 and Blaser R8 side plates are made? Obviously, some of the very high end models such as R93 Super Luxus are engraved by hand. But how about the Luxus models that come with engraved "side plates"?

Here is an engraved Blaser R93 example.

Are Blaser side plates engraved by hand or are they machine made? If they are machine-made, they don't seem to be laser engraved. It must be some other process that works on aluminum alloy.

Thanks

I don’t know for certain but having handled a bunch of them I’d guess they are cast. They are mostly high relief and I don’t recall seeing any tool marks to suggest they are cut.

Thank you for your reply. Casting might be a possibility. Does any one else have reliable information as to what type of engraving system or technique they use?

Blaser produces different types of engravings depending on the rifle grade.

Regular luxus, or superluxus models are cast and sideplates are made of a thin alloy sheet.

Once you enter in their custom class everything is hand engraved.

My Exklusif K95 is definetely hand engraved and signed by the engraver, and is is steel.

IMHO for the price you pay for even the least expensive of the engraved K95's, ( I have one), they should be hand engraved. RJ

That looks like an investment casting.

My K95 is a "Presteige" model. And yes, I doubt seriously that it is hand engraved, probably some kind of a casting. But, the engraving was of no interest when I bought it. The reason I paid the price that I did for it was because most K95's will shoot 1/2" groups "out of the box". Mine does. RJ

Thank you for your replies gentlemen. I looked into some of the older Blaser catalogs I have and I noticed that it is silent on the exact nature of the engraved plates for the Luxus model. It, however, says that the border areas of the receiver and trigger guard on this the Super Luxus models are hand engraved. So, from this and the above explanations by forum users we can assume that nearly all Blaser sideplates are machine made. The very high trim levels where the the engraving is directly applied to the receiver are hand engraved.
