Sorry to dissapoint some of you but I wouldn't take $300 for my K-6 (C6) El Paso with a 6 minute range finder. (circa 1969)

Is that a "shot-gun" scope and what exactly does that mean?

I cannot recommend the Bushnell Trophy. 2 friends had 'em, 3-9x40's, and both failed in the same way.....

We used to get Aetecs on special for $100. Great glass, but no good on hard kickers, many a broken cross-wires.....

I've know of 5-6 Weavers that have been in action for 10 years now, all Classic "V" or "K" series. They're pretty good for the dough IMO.......

I have several steel tube El Paso Weavers that I'd be happy to sell, if I could find the box that they got packed in when we moved 3 years ago:

K1, K2.5, K4, K6, K10(x2), KV(x2), V7(x3), V12

dog..,

Of course, you are right. There were so many old Weaver posts I threw that in. On the off chance the poster bought one. It's also the reason I mentioned the Bushnell Trophy. It is a decent scope, in my experience.

Quite the collection Jeff, but no K-1.5's ???? smile

That's the only one I have left besides a couple K-4's.

I did use a K-6 on several rifles, big game & varmint, back when I could only afford one gun at a time. Worked very well. Have not had as much luck with the (old) Weaver variables tho...

Bought a Tasco World Class about eight years ago. Can't remember what I paid for it. Wasn't much. I've seen them on sale for 35 or 40 bucks. On the whole they may be POS but mine has held zero for eight years. Mounted on Remington 700 30/06. Only taken one deer and one elk with that rifle scope combo. Someday when it breaks I'll spend the money and get a leuopold. I would have bought something better back when I bought the gun but it was all I could afford at that time.

I can't come out and recommend it to anyone but it works and is still working.

Intersting posts.
I must either have early onset of oldtimers or maybe just my memory chip is full.
I did have an El Paso K6 with the "TV set" looking ocular lens on a few guns. It worked OK.
Also had a Weaver 4X-12X with AO and the dual stadia. It was fine too, albiet a bit dark.
I don't remember getting much over $100 for them when I parted with them, and that is in Canadian pesos!
I didn't think you'd have much trouble finding used scopes in your locale, that's why I suggested looking for used Weavers.
The new K6 I mentioned has something like 300 rounds on it, mostly with that light .308 Norma, with no problems. It generates a fair bit of recoil, as I like to try interesting stuff like 220gr RN Hornady and 200gr NP.
You never wonder whether it went off after you pull the trigger anyway!
I didn't mean to send on to wild goose chases looking for used stuff, but I enjoy that activity, so there you go.
Good luck.

Dwayne,

Your post was well taken. Ebay always has plenty of used El Paso Weavers... so they aren't that hard to find.

Thanks for all the replies. This has turned out to be quite an interesting discussion... smile

Seen too many simmons fall apart, wires broke, lenses fall out etc.... unless it is the new touted version that I"ve yet to see...

Bushnell generally fell apart eventually on me too.

Tasco I"ve gone through a few in my cheap years. ONly one that failed was a pistol scope one on a 44 mag. One is still taking a beating on ARs as a test scope though its finally showing wear and tear from that double recoil stuff...

Beyond that I can't help at the moment.

The El Paso Weavers are the obvious answer. Other possibilities are the gun company house brands. Marlin and Savage are two with which I have experience. In the 60's and seventy's these companies imported Japanese scopes. No prestige name, but the quality was quite good.

hus..,

The Savage 'package deals' I've seem had Simmons scopes. If they sell a house brand that's probably who makes it.

I'm talking 30+ years ago. Who knows who was making them then. I don't remember Simmons in the scope business back then.

I've got Bushnell Trophys on a 35 Whelen (Mauser) and 30-06 (721). Both are holding up quite well.

For 200 , I would prefer a used Zeiss or Schmidt und Bender 4x32/6x42 from the 1950s or 1960s to almost every "modern" new Pacific Rim scope in the same price category.
