To add:
As we have reached retirement age, my wife and I are both driving Mercedes as "fun cars". she an E53, and me a GT63.
I'd not go back...

a guy down the road bought a new Corvette. I just assumed it was a Ferrari until I saw the front badging. It seems like a pretty big departure from Corvettes we're used to.
That's alot of car for $60K

My first car was a six year old 71 Toyota Celica. Inline four 8R-C, 113 CID, 9.1/1 compression, 109 hp at 5500, redline at 6300, four speed manual, it weighed almost 2100 lb with me in the driver's seat.
And yes, I took her right to red line with almost every shift. The Michelin XZX 195 R-13 tires kept her in my lane around the corners when I really should have been off in a ditch somewhere.
Yes that was the most fun of any vehicle I have ever driven. The handling characteristics were very forgiving, and probably why I am still alive today. I had her turned and sliding straight sideways down the hiway many times at around 40-45 mph and never felt uneasy. Could grab The E brake and reverse directions at 40 and never leave your lane. Gosh, I loved that car.
At 100 mph, I still had 1000 rpm left on the tachometer, and a bit of throttle available. But I never had enough balls to run her faster.
If I could find another like it for under $10K, I would buy it in a heartbeat. But the closest thing out there today is the Mazda MX-5.

I ride a BMW K1300S so few cars could catch that
However, a fellow I worked for had me drive his Bentley Continental GT with W12 engine. Man that was quick. 0-100kmh in four seconds. Had polished dash and racing pedals. Nice car.

I spent 2 days in January at a Porsche driving school in Birmingham. Drove literally everything they had to offer. No holds barred. It was awesome.

Slow, (by today's standards) handled like a very light go kart, 1973 Lotus Europa. I guess if you could keep one running, it would be fun.

When I was stationed at NAS Pensacola I did some autocrossing of my 16V Scirroco but there was a retired Naval Aviator and his wife who autocrossed a 15 year old Lotus Formula 3 car. He loved to get us Ensigns in it so got to do some laps.
Holy crap, completely different than anything else I'd ever been in and it was de-tuned to reduce the maint costs. Only about 110 horsepower @8000 rpm Cosworth but geared low for autocross and it weighed less than 1000lbs with me in it. Truly amazing.

67 Alpha Romeo GTV sprint veloce....DOHC 5speed top end speed for days..not to mention the handling. Rarely see them on the road. That is one of my favorite cars. Had a 75 Spider Veloce back in the day. Fun cars with an Italian attitude. My 76 Spider on the PCH on my way from NAS Whidbey to Naval Postgrad school in Monterey CA. Three days in Sept doing the drive. Pretty perfect. That car was not fast in virtually any way. Any Miata ever built would kick it's ass but it was so well balanced and fun it was perfect. Bought it for $1500, put new rocker panels in, new interior, some minor engine work (new radiator, remote oil filter and gaskets). Put harnesses and a roll bar and sold it for $3500 after 10 years of fun track days and weekends in the mountains.

Lamborghini Diablo 5.7 was the most outrageous.
Fastest in a straight line was no doubt a Tesla P100D.

Buddy had a Triumph Spitfire, don't remember the year, fun to drive until the carbs got stuck open! I bought my '64 Spit in 1974, when I was a junior in high school, for $500. Bought it from a neighbor who had just purchased a brand-new Gremlin!!! Only problem, my girlfriend's parents would not allow their daughter to ride in that "death trap!"

Don't only think fastest or most powerful, but consider handling/drivablity/dynamics etc, and just plain good fun. This would HAVE to be my dad's '49 Ford F100. The things we did with that thing in high school....
