I shared with the forum some of the deer pics I took during my vacation. There's one place right outside the town of Mt Crested Butte where I can count on seeing bachelor groups of bucks every evening around sunset. One evening I drove out that way only to see a small SUV parked along the edge of the road. I didn't want to crowd anyone out, so I eased by. As I did I looked back and saw a young woman in a camo coat looking at a distant mountain with her spotting scope.

I I stopped and asked her what she was looking at. She said there was a herd of elk. I asked her if she minded if I took a look. I held up my binocs as I asked. She smiled and welcomed me. I got out and looked at them through my binocs. They were too far to tell if there were any bulls. I looked at her spotting scope. It was a Swarovski. I commented on her good taste in glass. She smiled and welcomed me to take a peak. I was a bit surprised because most people out there were really standoffish and protective out of concerns for COVID. I looked, and could see what looked like a good bull.

I asked her if she hunted. She said she did and that she was scouting. I asked her if she hunted mule dear. She again answered in the affirmative. I told her that she was standing right above some good deer, then pointed to several in the gulch below her. She was surprised to see them there. I told her that I had seen what I thought was a good shooter there. That piqued her interest, so I showed her a pic of one that a few folks here said might go 170. She was impressed, but not overly so.

We talked a bit longer and exchanged Facebook contact info. I wished her well and told her I was looking forward to seeing what she killed this year. She moved on to a camping spot close to Rustler's Gulch so that she could scout there the next morning. The next day she sent me a friend request. I followed that up with a message asking her how the scouting went. She was somewhat tight lipped about the elk. Just said she had seen "some." Then she sent me a video of the biggest damn mule deer I had ever seen. It was grainy because she used her phone through her spotting scope. That sucker was giant. She said it was easy 200 plus. If I knew how to post it here I would.

I thought it was pretty cool that she did solo scouting and hunting trips. She was kind and cute. I know FB is scoffed at here, and I utterly detest that Kermit the Frog sounding prickshidt that owns it, but I think it's pretty damn cool that I made a connection with a fellow hunter and that FB gives me an easy way to follow her ventures. I have met some of the nicest people out in the Crested Butte area. I call it the happiest place on earth. I don't think I have ever encountered a grumpy person there.

Just another anecdote to give those who don't immerse themselves in politics and drama something to read here.

You say nothing would run through your mind like that but call her cute. HaHa! Buddy I ain’t young, and I am happily married, but I meet a cute gal with good glass looking for elk or mulies, it would damn sure run through mine. I am married, not dead. And you are still breathing, so....😂

I tend to be honest, but I may not have been when I typed that.

Yeah...well, that's where I'm going to retire in a couple of years so enjoy it while you can.

None of them sent me that particular photo and - come to think of it - normally they would. So, probably not one of ours, although any of them might have been scouting and would have enjoyed the encounter you described. Nice anecdote. Thanks.
