Absolutely, for sure. Zero reason to use a carbine system unless you got a really great barrel for free.

Here's a 14.5" barrel, 16" overall, mid-length gas with a 13" rail; absolutely great setup & is my (shorter range, red dot) all around GOTO.

If I ever go shorter than 16" again, it'll be an 11.5" SBR. No pinned and welded extended flash hiders for me again.

I'm with TWR on the pinning and welding.

It's the false positive that a 1.5" shorter gun brings to the marriage that is a no go for me. Ya a divorce can be arranged but it'll cost you.

What you'll get is slower velocity, extra noise and extra hassle if you want to change anything up.

So back when I did it, I had to buy a flash hider that was predrilled at an extra price then if you're not handy with tools, you gotta ship it off to be done. Figure the fee and shipping, add in the extended FH or brake (God forbid) and that $200 stamp isn't so far away.....

And yes they can be cut off fairly easy if you're handy but still it makes no sense to me. But that's just my view from the cheap seats.

Pistol braces have gotten pretty good these days.

I don't trust any politicians right now. I may just go with the 16" barrel in case they shove some more regs down our throats 2 seconds after I build the thing.

I have astigmatism. Anyone have feedback to share on the Cyclops prism scope?

I'm nearsighted, wear glasses. Also have a 1X Cyclops. The diopter ring lets you focus in the reticle. Eye relief is almost unlimited, so you can mount it wherever it suits you.

14.7" pinned/welded, with Cyclops and OWL light.

Handguard is light and rigid, was concerned about strength. No good way to mount a front iron sight, ok by me on this particular gun. The gas tube gets very close to the handguard on the receiver end and its possible to grasp the handguard in such a way that you get reminded the gas tube gets hot. So far mostly just function check and so far so good. If burns become frequent from the handguard..... hmmm

Excuse my ignorance but looking at some of my barrel options out there... I've always thought I would get something chambered in 556 thinking I could shoot either that or the lower pressure 223 rounds. But some sites say their AR15 barrels are chambered as Wylde. And others say 556. What am I missing? Thanks.

The Wylde is a commercial chamber designed to provide better accuracy with both 5.56 NATO and .223 Rem.

MM, which buttstock are you using there?

Reason I ask is, I was thinking about switching my commie zapper over to a Magpul SL-K for better cheek weld and less slop.

I see when I go to order a BCG on some web sites, an option to add an adjustable gas key. What are your thoughts on this versus an adjustable gas block? Any advantage either way?
