Does any rifle maker mill picatinny slots into the receiver? Would likely have to put a little thicker metal on top but the end result could be a low and super solid mounting system. It would lose some adaptability and gain one fewer joint between scope and rifle. Spur of the moment thot so no problem to flame it.

Defiance Machine (among others) offers integral rails on their actions. This, there are quite of few offerings, the money spent to add or machine would offset the cost, plus you could sell your current action

I always thought Ruger and Tikka should go that route instead of their proprietary chit..

The Defiance GA Deviant Hunter is the right idea. Personally I'd like the slots lower in height but there may be issues I'm not aware of that they designed it higher to work around....as long as the rail is low enough I'd think ring height could be used to work around bolt/barrel clearance....but I'm on the outside looking in.

As you can see almost all the custom action makers have gone that route.. But “rifle maker” ... like the big guys - not really, unless you are getting a custom / semi-custom. Build.

Possibly they are hung up on the Pic Standard that specifies height? Silly stuff - looking from out here. Gawd those spirals are fuggly! I just can't stand that look, doesn't compliment a damned thing on a rifle... LOL Otherwise that thing is super sexy!

It probably has something to do with getting a 0 MOA rail vs. a 20 MOA rail vs. a 40.
That plus some of the “clamp on” fixtures for pick rails have levers under them and if there isn’t any clearance between the rail and the sides of the action you can’t hardly get at them.

None shown have the sensible - > simply two slots, low, for and aft.

Thompson Center did it with their Icon rifles, I own one and really like it for the reasons you stated. Sako does it with their new S20 rifle that was just announced a few months ago. The Merkel RX Helix has it, straight pull rifle action. I am sure there are others...

Pic style, cool. . Those look really good, multiple slots for placement, low to the action, and open port....nice.
