Does anyone have a clue as to what I have here? It fires 22 shorts, has no markings and I am stumped.

Its quite possible its a home made job. It was given to a friend of mine by an old moonshiner in Popcorn Suttons neck of the woods. He was just trying to find out a little history on it. All I could tell him is that it "looked old" grin

It is know as the forerunner of the Smith and Wesson Mag-u-numbed. It fires the 32 Wildcatwhupper Special . It was designed to carry in ones underwear so in case one pooped a wildcat while in the outhouse it could be used to shoot the thing off you till you got out the door and turned the latch button that was a rectangle piece of wood fastened by a nail so it could be rotated when the door was closed so it could be turned to keep the door closed to keep the wildcat in until you could get a bigger gun to kill it with.
Small light gun that didnt make to big a bulge in ones underwear.
The good thing was it wouldnt vaporize the outhouse like the later 9MM Miraculose Farce would and kill the wildcat and the shooter both. That is the reason the later 9MM Miraculose Farce didnt find favor as the outhouse gun. One shot was all that was needed. Many today are fanboys of IDPA, IPSC, and USPSA and are constantly in battle mode with 3 or 4 magazines hung on their belt to go to Wal Mart.
One must be careful selecting an outhouse gun. Too much power isnt a good thing. But, still one wants enough power to penetrate a wildcat and the bullet stop under the hide on the opposite side. Blowing up the outhouse with the 9MM Miraculose Farce can get expensive especially if you are fortunate enough to have a brick outhouse and a good stink pipe and a cord running from the house with a light bulb with a pull chain. Plus it is getting harder to find baled corn shucks to keep in the outhouse.
