My Dad was on the island of Tinian that day. On September 2nd of that year, he and his crew were flying their B-29 over the Missouri along with every other airplane in the Pacific.

My uncle was on the first leg of his trip home, after spending the war in a Japanese POW camp.
On a good note though, he personally killed the Camp Commandant before he left....
