“What is the end game with the pandemic? Anyone?
What is the magic formula that is going to allow us to sound the all clear? Is it zero cases?
Initially the goal was to simply flatten the curve, but now that we are disconnecting utilities for gatherings in CA, setting up check points in New York, recommending goggles, and demanding we wear masks on zoom meetings when we are home alone. There is, in fact, no end game. The only way that we will see numbers drop is if we cease testing and stop reporting.

Is it a vaccine? It took 25 years for a chicken pox vaccine to be developed. The smallpox inoculation was discovered in 1776 and the last known natural case was in 1977. We have a flu vaccine that is only 40 to 60% effective (that’s generous- the last two years it was more like 20-25%), less than half of the US population chooses to get one, and roughly 20,000 Americans still die annually due to flu or flu complications.

Oh, you'll mandate it in order to attend school, travel to foreign countries, etc. We already have a growing number of vaccine researchers refusing proven, tested, well-known vaccines that have been administered for decades!
Do you really believe the majority of people will flock to get a fast-tracked vaccine, whose long-term side effects and overall efficacy rates are anyone's best guess? How long are we going to cancel? Postpone? Reconsider?

Now we are advised against in-person school until second quarter? What if October's numbers are the same as August's? Then what?

Move football to spring? What if next March is worse than this March?

When do we decide quality of life outweighs risk?

We understand this virus can be deadly for some, but so are shellfish, peanut butter, and bee stings. We take risks every day without a second thought.

We know driving a car can be dangerous, but we don't leave it parked in the garage for months on end. We know the dangers of skiing, drinking, and eating fried foods, but we do it, anyway. We speed on highways, some don’t wear sunglasses to prevent cataracts, we take medications more than “as directed.”

Is hugging Grandma really more dangerous than rush hour on the freeway? Is going to a bar with friends more risky than sushi? Or operating a chainsaw?

When and how did we so quickly lose our free will?

I want a waiver that says, "I understand the risks, but I choose a life with hugs, smiles, college athletics, the state fair, concerts, and school dances."

I understand that there is a minuscule possibility I could die but, more probable, I will end up feeling lousy for a few days.

I understand I could possibly pass this virus onto someone else, but I can pass ANY virus onto someone else at any time until the end of time.

Are we busy living or busy ceasing to live?

It’s hard to tell these days.”

I will be dead before going peacefully to the gulag. I do agree that we need to re-elect Trump and dump as many congressional and state dems as possible.

Pandemics usually last 18 months±, with or without vaccines.

H1N1 (2009) was declared a pandemic in April of 2009, and declared over in August, 2010.

1968 flu pandemic, also called Hong Kong flu pandemic of 1968 or Hong Kong flu of 1968, global outbreak of influenza that originated in China in July 1968 and lasted until 1969–70. The outbreak was the third influenza pandemic to occur in the 20th century; it followed the 1957 flu pandemic and the influenza pandemic of 1918–19.

1957 H2N2

First identified in early 1957 with a second wave rolling through in February 1958. Peak deaths worldwide were in October-Nov 1957

H1N1 1918 Spanish Flu

Began February 1918 and lasted until April 1920

CDC Fun Facts:

Though the 2009 flu pandemic primarily affected children and young and middle-aged adults, the impact of the (H1N1)pdm09 virus on the global population during the first year was less severe than that of previous pandemics. Estimates of pandemic influenza mortality ranged from 0.03 percent of the world’s population during the 1968 H3N2 pandemic to 1 percent to 3 percent of the world’s population during the 1918 H1N1 pandemic. It is estimated that 0.001 percent to 0.007 percent of the world’s population died of respiratory complications associated with (H1N1)pdm09 virus infection during the first 12 months the virus circulated.

The United States mounted a complex, multi-faceted and long-term response to the pandemic, summarized in The 2009 H1N1 Pandemic: Summary Highlights, April 2009-April 2010. On August 10, 2010, WHO declared an end to the global 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic. However, (H1N1)pdm09 virus continues to circulate as a seasonal flu virus, and cause illness, hospitalization, and deaths worldwide every year.

1968 Pandemic (H3N2 virus)

The 1968 pandemic was caused by an influenza A (H3N2) virus comprised of two genes from an avian influenza A virus, including a new H3 hemagglutinin, but also contained the N2 neuraminidase from the 1957 H2N2 virus. It was first noted in the United States in September 1968. The estimated number of deaths was 1 million worldwide and about 100,000 in the United States. Most excess deaths were in people 65 years and older. The H3N2 virus continues to circulate worldwide as a seasonal influenza A virus. Seasonal H3N2 viruses, which are associated with severe illness in older people, undergo regular antigenic drift.

In February 1957, a new influenza A (H2N2) virus emerged in East Asia, triggering a pandemic (“Asian Flu”). This H2N2 virus was comprised of three different genes from an H2N2 virus that originated from an avian influenza A virus, including the H2 hemagglutinin and the N2 neuraminidase genes. It was first reported in Singapore in February 1957, Hong Kong in April 1957, and in coastal cities in the United States in summer 1957. The estimated number of deaths was 1.1 million worldwide and 116,000 in the United States.

1918 Pandemic (H1N1 virus)
1918 Flu Pandemic Commemoration
The 1918 influenza pandemic was the most severe pandemic in recent history. It was caused by an H1N1 virus with genes of avian origin. Although there is not universal consensus regarding where the virus originated, it spread worldwide during 1918-1919. In the United States, it was first identified in military personnel in spring 1918. It is estimated that about 500 million people or one-third of the world’s population became infected with this virus. The number of deaths was estimated to be at least 50 million worldwide with about 675,000 occurring in the United States.

1918 Pandemic
History of 1918 Flu Pandemic

Read about the 1918 influenza pandemic and progress made in preparedness and response.
Mortality was high in people younger than 5 years old, 20-40 years old, and 65 years and older. The high mortality in healthy people, including those in the 20-40 year age group, was a unique feature of this pandemic. While the 1918 H1N1 virus has been synthesized and evaluated, the properties that made it so devastating are not well understood. With no vaccine to protect against influenza infection and no antibiotics to treat secondary bacterial infections that can be associated with influenza infections, control efforts worldwide were limited to non-pharmaceutical interventions such as isolation, quarantine, good personal hygiene, use of disinfectants, and limitations of public gatherings, which were applied unevenly.

So if this were to follow the pattern of the 1957 H2N2, expect peak cases and deaths Oct-Nov of 2020, and it to burn out by this time next summer.

That is unless the world takes measure to drag out the natural course of things and then it could last well into 2022 as pockets of people emerge from hibernation only to deal with it as the can gets kicked down the road.

Yep, and this one will act the same maybe even worse because i=of the IGNORANT ramblings of the MSM and IDIOTIC mandates of politicians. Medical science has known for years that viruses will run their course no matter what man does!

A majority? Perhaps not.

A large plurality at a minimum? Damn straight, given how chicken$hit scared most people are about a disease that everyone will get and most will never notice, eventually.

The buzzword was "flatten the curve", to lessen the impact on hospital systems. Knowing nothing about graphing admittedly, it would seem a disease progression graph would have two components (XandY?). The vertical component of the graph would be the number of infected? The horizontal component the time line? So as the number of infections supposedly held down the vertical component, the horizontal component, the time line would be extended?
I'm not arguing a position here, I really would like to hear some opinions...more on graphing statistics than the actual disease itself.

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

Maybe a lot depends on where you live, and the number of people you come in contact with and what they have been exposed to, here in S.Texas, they are piling up body's like cord wood, and using reefer trucks to store the body's.

There are so many cases coming from Mexico, and the traffic back and forth on the border, is very heavy, 1 of our doctors died of China -19 last week and another is very ill now, I talked to a good friend yesterday who is our family doctor, about people coming here to hunt this season, as we are fully booked, starting Sept. 15 th, his comment was how many people are you willing to lose?? Hell I don't know what to think? Rio7

It's a vaccine and it will contain a tracker so everyone can be "safe" . At least that's one phase. If the tracker isn't included this time it's just because the social climate isn't quite right. At least this run has partially "trained" Americans to accept the collar and leash. Possibly more fear with a worse Pandemic is necessary before the tracker is implanted.

The Tracker may or may not involve a neuro device to uplink into Elon Musk's NET,but there again the tracker becomes just another step to the collar and leash that will be total control in the name of safety.

Watch Joe Rogan's interview with Elon Musk and you will see it isn't all just a fantasy anymore.
